Delightful time at Alimentum last Saturday evening - service as good as ever. 7 course taster menu did not disappoint - every course was memorable and remarkable value. Why this place does not still have a Michelin Star I fail to understand.

Leading the brigade at Restaurant Alimentum is acclaimed Head Chef, Samira Effa. Samira's belief in working with fresh, and seasonal ingredients is paramount, bringing a burst of culinary flair to this elegant Cambridge restaurant.

Expect to see some big and bold flavours on the Alimentum menu, with inspiration taken from the chef's previous head chef mentors. There is also a nod to Samira's Iranian-Nigerian heritage, which is seen in dishes such as stone bass, smoked aubergine, saffron and red pepper.

Described as ‘illuminating’ by The Good Food Guide, the Alimentum restaurant wine list brings together interesting fine wines, with a focus on boutique French, Italian and Californian producers. The inviting bar area is ideal for a glass of Champagne before you start your meal-or a premium whisky afterwards

A glittering jewel on the UK restaurant scene, Alimentum Cambridge is championed as the ‘hottest ticket in Cambridge’ in The Good Food Guide 2012. Cambridge Rail Station is a 3-minute drive away. Parking is available at the NCP car park on Clifton Way via Cherry Hinton Road.

Enjoyed our dinner here. Took advantage of a special offer for the tasting menu. Food was very good and staff / service also very good. Total bill, with wine came to around £200. We thought it was priced right for the food / service. Keep it up!

The staff are friendly and welcoming without hovering. At my request they chose a glass of wine for me for each course, and the selections were excellent, really complimenting the food. The food was superb, especially the main courses; I had the ricotta with mushrooms and my partner had the lamb neck. The whipped beef dripping with the bread was different and delightful. We had one of the tables where you can see the kitchen through the wide window, which was great, because I love watching the magic happen!

Luncheon menu provided limited but adequate choice. The food itself was elegantly presented and delicious, full of differing but complementary flavours. The maitr d/ sommelier was very helpful.A very pleasing overall experience. A fuller restaurant would have contributed to the ambience.

A fantastic dining experience. It was our 1st wedding anniversary and we wanted to celebrate with a special meal. The food was outstanding, interesting, tasty - just awesome. My husband is a head chef at a large hotel in Birmingham and he was very impressed. The restaurant was not busy - only 9 diners on a Saturday evening. This didn’t bother us but some may find it too quiet. The meal and wine was pricey but worth every penny.

Easy to book, very quiet that lunchtime. Service efficient, informed and well paced.
The food was significantly improved on the last couple visits. The set lunch was amazingly good value.
Each course delicious, only jarring note for me was the basil ice cream on the peach dessert. The beef dripping with bread delighted both of us!
I have said in past reviews and to staff that the only thing I really don’t like about Alimentum is the room! It feels like a car showroom!! Sorry but have always felt the interior decor and organisation let’s it down.
Otherwise am singing the praises of the new food approach and confident accomplished hand in the kitchen.

I always seek out Alimentum on visits to Cambridge. Attentive staff and amazing food, juxtaposing unexpected flavours into a harmonious whole, and obviously the product of skilled and dedicated staff. The presentation is a work of art. The fixed price menu is excellent value, especially as it includes a canape, amuse-bouche and a pre-dessert. Main course lamb was a triumph. Comprehensive wine list with some more unusual choices, eg German Baden white, and staff were very knowledgeable. Brilliant champagne cocktail!

The food was excellent overall. The chef was accommodating: I'm teetotal, and one of the mid-course palate cleansers had whisky, so s/he made a different one for me, unasked.

Room for improvement: our waiter was very young and seemingly inexperienced. He had memorised his lines about what he was serving, but really didn't make eye contact upon presenting the dishes. Also, call me old-fashioned, but my female companion was not always served first.

Minor quibble: The table settings included those for "unannounced"/ non-ordered dishes e.g. amuse bouche, palate cleansers etc. Part of the theatre of "fine dining" is that, even though both parties know that these will be offered, they are meant to be spontaneous gestures of the host's hospitality...having the fork or spoon already set out on the table detracts from some of that theatre, and comes across as a bit lazy.

However, I don't want this to sound as if we didn't have a brilliant time, we did, and I thought the price was very fair.

Food was fabulous with flavours that got the taste buds moving. The soda bread and dripping butter were novel. The sommelier’s recommendations were excellent.
