I had heard good reviews and looked forward to this. Despite terrible weather we ventured down to Herne Bay. The cafe was charming and the lunch sandwich options delicious. However, the cake, despite looking delicious was very dry. When I commented on this I was quite rudely told they were gluten and dairy free so I should expect them to be dry. I also had not been made aware from the website that this was cash only, particularly as I had to provide credit card details to book. My friend and I had to rush out to the bank in the storm to get cash. One member of staff then proceeded to push past my friend with no apology. I think if we had stopped at the sandwiches it would have been fine but the cake left a bad taste and we rushed to eat mints on return to the car to get rid of the claggy taste in our mouths. I will not be returning.

The place is quirky and nice to go somewhere different. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The afternoon tea was good, we were happy with what we paid for it although it wasn't the best I've ever had. The main thing that was disappointing was the seating isn't very comfy at all, we felt a bit crammed in - spare tables around but they seated us right in between two other tables. It was good to go somewhere different and fun but I wouldn't rush back.

We loved the quirky decor with Alice and friends. Enjoyed the afternoon tea which was plentiful. Great selection of finger sandwiches and little sweet bites. Raspberry tartlets super.

After visiting Canterbury branch with my kids and being turned away as we hadn’t booked, this time I went online To book at Herne Bay I found the website confusing but managed to make a booking for 3 people for 1am I received a phone call fairly soon afterwards asking if I wanted afternoon tea I said yes, thinking this meant ‘as opposed to lunch’ When I arrived, the tearoom seemed far less themed than Canterbury with no waiters in costume Someone asked what we wanted and I asked for the menu The waitress said she’d get it for us but then a more senior person came to the table and said that we’d pre-booked Afternoon Tea which was a set meal I asked what it was and was given a rough rundown (sounded nice) and the price which was far more than I had hoped to pay, though I could not now back out in front of my children As they were 12 years old twins they had to have the adult price, but honestly the tea was too ‘fiddly’ for them-they avoided the sandwiches because of various pickles in them and most of the petites fours I thought it was lovely but would have liked to be able to customise it better for my kids and in the end I felt I’d wasted a lot of money One of the twins was given a small hot chocolate which he preferred to tea so that was a nice gesture, but overall I felt I’d been led into a situation I would not have chosen

Gorgeous place to visit for lunch or afternoon tea. Loved the attention to detail in the children’s tea & the homemade cake was something else.
