After visiting Canterbury branch with my kids and being turned away as we hadn’t booked, this time I went online To book at Herne Bay I found the website confusing but managed to make a booking for 3 people for 1am I received a phone call fairly soon afterwards asking if I wanted afternoon tea I said yes, thinking this meant ‘as opposed to lunch’ When I arrived, the tearoom seemed far less themed than Canterbury with no waiters in costume Someone asked what we wanted and I asked for the menu The waitress said she’d get it for us but then a more senior person came to the table and said that we’d pre-booked Afternoon Tea which was a set meal I asked what it was and was given a rough rundown (sounded nice) and the price which was far more than I had hoped to pay, though I could not now back out in front of my children As they were 12 years old twins they had to have the adult price, but honestly the tea was too ‘fiddly’ for them-they avoided the sandwiches because of various pickles in them and most of the petites fours I thought it was lovely but would have liked to be able to customise it better for my kids and in the end I felt I’d wasted a lot of money One of the twins was given a small hot chocolate which he preferred to tea so that was a nice gesture, but overall I felt I’d been led into a situation I would not have chosen

Lovely tasty sandwich. Large variety of sandwiches available. Plentiful afternoon tea. Everything in keeping with the theme. Good attention to detail. Misunderstanding over tea. Party of 7 understood it to be a one free refill of hot water . Need to be clearer what’s included in the afternoon tea, or when the tea option is extra, as otherwise we would of made different decisions and saved £14. Especially as you have to prebook afternoon the customers won’t be reading the menu should you have this information on there.

Very nice food, drink and atmosphere. I enjoyed the latte and the sandwiches and cakes from the afternoon tea. I had to.request for all items from the list online again, so I felt there was no point of booking online. Overall nice experience.
