Customer reviews for Alchemy at The Academy
((*** 22 October 2013 by Alex from London
We had afternoon tea there during the London restaurant festival. It is ok, for the price, with sparkling wine included. The cakes and scones were most likely bought in from a catering supplier, not made by their chef. Teas were made with tea bags. I guess you can't compare it with afternoon tea at the Ritz where it charges £40 a head. But it didn't feel very special. We could have gone to a tea room for the same price and had homemade cakes. The staff were fine, but the waiters were not there all the time. I had to ring a bell to get someone. Not a big problem, but it doesn't give the impression that the Academy hotel wants to make afternoon tea a focus of their business. The location was perfect, we went for a lovely walk in Bloomsbury afterwards. Maybe it is more for a place to stay than for dining.
