Overlooking the world-famous golf course, afternoon tea at the Old Course Hotel offers both classic dining and a classic location. Served in the Conservatory on weekdays and the Sands Grill Restaurant on weekends, stunning surrounds are guaranteed.

The afternoon tea menu pairs exotic teas with timeless treats. Joining a selection of finger sandwiches are homemade scones, lemon pancakes served with strawberry and pink champagne preserve and clotted cream, and a choice of cakes and pastries hand crafted by the pastry chef. Extra indulgence can be added in the form of Laurent Perrier Champagne or classic cocktails.

From the impressive tea menu, discover specialities from around the world. Try classic Earl Grey, or the more exotic flavours of Japanese Sencha, Ceylon Rose or rooibos from South Africa.

The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa offers some of the most luxurious afternoon tea in St Andrews. A few steps from the course, the coast and the town centre are a short walk away.

We had an enjoyable afternoon overall. It was a lovely opulent atmosphere to have afternoon tea. We were not asked our name when we arrived - I just said we had a booking. I booked an afternoon tea but then we were asked what we had booked - I suppose this was good as it gave the options to change to a champagne afternoon tea if you wanted. The waitress helped with the choice of teas both were very good. However, I felt charging an additional £3.50 for a specific pot of tea was overpriced. A pot of tea is only water and tea leaves after all. The sandwiches were tasty. Cakes fab. Best bit of the whole tea I felt were the scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream. Liked the fact you could take away any left over cakes, which we did as we were full. Refill of tea came too late - waitress could have asked earlier or made it clear that we could get a top up of hot water if need be. Overall I enjoyed it but thought it overpriced.

Wonderful afternoon tea, could not fault a single thing. Service was amazing, all our dietry needs were excellently catered for. Thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and the setting was perfect. Would whole-heartedly recommend this afternoon tea and venue before any others on offer in the area. We would definitely come again and tell all our friends of our wonderful visit.

My comments on the Afternoon Tea of The Old Course Hotel:

    The Food:
    1) Sandwiches - Not good!!!! Tasteless and Cheap ingredients. Expected much more from this hotel.
    2) Scones - Delicious.
    3) Pastries - Mixed. Not all of them are good, some of them are just sugar.
No you cannot ask for refills, we tried on one of the cheesecakes. They gave us one additional one but this was a one-off and not common practice. I hear other places will give you refills but I have confirmed that The Old Course Hotel does not.

    The Tea:
Great. Coffees included too. We liked the Chamomile one a lot. The selection isn't too large but you fill find that it has everything you need.

    The Location:
Beautiful as we were set up in the Conservatory watching the world go by. It was a beautiful day. I heard they will have Afternoon Tea in different areas of the hotel. Hope that you are in The Conservatory because I feel this location is the best.

    The Service:
Pleasant, Friendly and Welcoming. Pretty attentive too.

Would I Go Back: Not for a very long time. There are better Afternoon Tea places out there.

Beautiful afternoon tea. Best sausage rolls we have ever tasted! Lovely cream of tomato soup to start with. Even provided a doggy bag for all the cakes we couldn't eat.
Only negative was the room was quite dark and would have preferred a table with a view over the Old Course.

It was nice however needs more savoury, far to many cakes. Also you are paying for the location rather than the afternoon tea. Glad I've done it but probably wouldn't go back.
