Went for the safari themed high tea. Sat in the conservatory lovely setting. Started with signature Amarula cocktail followed by a lovely array of sandwiches and cakes. Had the apple and elderflower tea which was 2nd to none. After tea went into leopard bar which was fantastically decorated. Being from South Africa it was like being back home. Lovely hotel service outstanding will definitely visit again

This was our second visit to The Montague Hotel for afternoon tea and again received an excellent service. Staff very attentive/helpful. Delicious food and extra sandwiches/cakes included in the price. Good value for money.

One of the best afternoon tea experiences with excellent service, great choice of teas with information about each. The sandwiches and scones were beautifully fresh and more were available if required. Good choice of cakes to suit most palates. The restaurant was bright and airy and we would have loved to have sat in the covered outdoor area but it was a very wet, cold day.

The afternoon tea was nice and the service was ok. We had a lovely server to begin with but after that service was slow and the manager decided to comment on the fact 2 of us had sat at a table for 4 (even though at the time there were no other diners on the terrace). we hope her staff member didn't get into trouble as it was us who decided to sit there...
The sandwiches and scones were delicious but the pastries were not to our taste so we were slightly disappointed (but that's just our own personal opinion).
Taking this on board we decided the afternoon tea wasn't worth the £36 per person (it's usually £32 but they add a service charge on). We asked to take the service charge off when paying our bill (we had also not budgeted to pay nearly £40 per person for afternoon tea and forgotten about extra service charges when booking). We were made to feel a little embarrassed for doing so.... we understand service charge is quite common in London but if it's discretionary surely that means we can chose whether we pay it?! We simply hadn't budgeted to pay over £70 between us for sandwiches and scones....
All this aside the majority of staff were polite and friendly, the hotel restaurants looked clean and quirky and it was in a lovely location.
I would perhaps make it clear on the website or upon arrival that there will be a service charge added to the bill at the end and allow payers to discreetly choose whether or not they would be paying it.... Or they could even add the service charge into the price as it is???
    Many thanks.
