On arrival a man came over, welcomed us, shook our hands and introduced himself as Peter, by doing these small things he made us feel special. He escorted us to the tea room and even though we were 30 minutes early we were shown to a table. The service in the tea room was excellent, the staff were attentive but not pushy which we really liked. The sandwiches were delicious, especially the chicken, mushroom and tarragon and the desserts, whilst we weren't keen on the Eton mess (too much cream and not enough meringue) were equally delicious. We had a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

A beautiful tea room with lovely, attentive staff. The scones are served warm with your choice of preserve. A lovely touch was all cakes had a Wimbledon theme for the championships! There are 10 different blends of loose leaf tea to choose from with 3 exclusive to the Midland. The Jubilee blend tastes like strawberries and is delicious. The only slight criticism is that the room was very warm on an already hot day so the air conditioning could have been better employed for everyone's comfort. The serving staff were welcoming and friendly and helped make it a real experience to remember.

The Tea Room itself is lovely and the food was also very nice however this is an expensive afternoon tea (we have done a number at various hotels/tearooms in central Manchester) and in all honestly is not worth the extra money. We were a little early but were not seated until 10 min after our reservation time and after that I was just at the point of going to find a manager as no one had come to explain and take the order - so almost 30 min before we had drinks. The place was not packed out and many of the staff seemed new/inexperienced. I had rung the week before to request plain sandwiches for my mother (we were here for her 80th) and these were extremely plain and were not ready when we arrived (we were asked if she wanted butter when we placed our order) I had expeceted great service and a well oiled machine which was not really what we got although as I say the standard afternoon tea was fine (champagne was a little flat) and we got nice boxes to take home what we were unable to finish I had mentioned it was my mums birthday so expected a little fuss and a nice table - again this was lacking and although not full our table was right next to the back serving area which felt a little noisy and intrusive as staff were sorting out what they were serving

Had afternoon tea at the Midland many years ago and since then experienced afternoon tea in many places. This was much better in both cases. The selection of sandwiches was excellent especially as we were offered alternatives if necessary. The cakes were divine. If I were to be hyper critical I would say the range of teas was a little restricted. Having said that the Jubilee was superb. The service was professional and personable. To quote Arnie “We’ll be back “

The dining experience was great. We were allowed to change blends of tea and there were a variety of selections of tea and cakes. Our server was very friendly and informative. If the scones could have been brought out warm & everyone with their own serving of clotted cream this would have been the topping on the cake for me. In addition, on the morning of my dinning experience, I did get a rather odd call from one of the staff at the tea room, saying they couldn’t find my reservation (presumably responding back to a message I left a few weeks back)- think she was rather confused & I ended the call saying it was fine as I knew I had a reservation. Anyway I had spoken to another staff earlier that morning as I wanted to see if there was any earlier availability, so know if was definitely booked and also the fact that I did eventually receive a confirmation email. We arrived early (1/2 hour early) & was told if a table was free we could be seated earlier (which we were prepared to chance). There were actually about 5 tables free but not cleared, so whilst we could have been seated earlier, we ended up being seated 5 mins later than our actual time.

I liked the crockery. The 1903 blend of tea was superb. We had to wait for almost 15 minutes before anyone brought a menu and took the order! The fancies were a bit gooey but the Manchester Tart was very good though. I might have preferred more traditional fillings in the sandwiches. I wasn't expecting two scones!

I originally booked a table for 2 to celebrate my friend's 70th birthday. On the day, a third person was able to join us and I immediately tried to contact the Tea Room to request a table for 3, rather than 2. This was quite last minute but I was surprised that I was totally unable to get through to anybody on the phone despite several attempts. In the end I left a voicemail. On arrival, it was apparent that my message hadn't been received and our little party was kept waiting for nearly an hour in the hotel lobby whilst several people seemed incapable of working out if our additional person could be accommodated. During this long wait, no drinks nor 'updates' were offered. We assumed the Tea Room was very busy, but to our surprise, when we were finally seated, it was half empty. Our food was served very promptly once we were seated and the staff were very pleasant, but the long wait and uncertainty as to whether we would ever be seated somewhat spoilt the occasion.

I love coming to the midland for afternoon tea,.as I prefer "dry" sandwiches I usually ask for the children's sandwiches which they make up there and then for me.The choice of teas is brilliant and I love trying at least two flavours each time I go.The service is second to none.

Lovely venue for a special event (Mum's birthday). Food was excellent and was a little bit more special than other afternoon teas I've sampled - more interesting sandwich fillings and exquisite cakes.
