Booked brunch style afternoon tea for a surprise for my hubby Same was excellent, lots choice of sweet and savoury dishes all delicious. One item on the menu we didn’t eat they happily substituted it for something else’s without a problem. Plenty of refills of tea /coffee etc. Lovey ambience with pleasant staff and excellent service . Would recommend it to family and friends. Will be returning again Went on the tram dropped off just outside the hotel

This was my 1st afternoon tea for my birthday and considering the special setting and the price (£37) each, I expected a lot better service. I cannot fault the food, although expected more sandwiches, we got 4 tiny fingers each, but the service was really poor. We were served mulled wine first followed by the champagne. When the food was then brought out we had to get the attention of a waitress for the tea. Nobody cleared the empty glasses away so the table was jammed. We again had to get the attention of the staff for the jam & cream for the scones. They only gave us half a small jug of milk between 6 of us so we had to ask for more of that. Nobody offered us more tea so again we had to get attention of staff. Not once did anybody ask if everything was OK or whether we needed anything. I understand that they were busy but at this price and a full tea room there should have been more staff for a better service. They were just rushing around and weren’t even welcoming. This really let the whole experience down and for this reason I wouldn’t go back or recommend to anybody else.

I didn’t appreciate the fact that the cakes & puddings didn’t have vegetarian or fish gelatin like many other comparable afternoon tea establishments, so had to have vegan which weren’t very nice. The vegetarian sandwich options were somewhat limited too. Not as good as in the past. Disappointed.

Food and ambience excellent However, despite pre arranging at booking and a reminder on arrival that the booking was for a 70th birthday event - nothing was done to mark it in any way despite assurances to the contrary
