Restaurant description

Offering postcard-worthy views over Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, The Library serves up a delicious afternoon tea throughout the day and a sumptuous set supper at night. Located in the Marriott County Hall Hotel, The Library features oak bookcases stacked with the classics and busts of literary and historical figures like Shakespeare, Plato and Milton, which transport diners back to the glamorous era of the 1920s.

On The Library menu, afternoon tea features freshly cut finger sandwiches filled with reimagined classics like Paprika chicken with peppery rocket in Carrot and Coriander bread, Grilled pumpkin and fennel muffins and Mushroom, leek and brie cheese quiche in a multi-grain tart. Irresistible arrangements of cakes and fancies include Lemon thyme and praline meringue tart, Amarena cherry and dark chocolate brownie delice, as well as sweet and plain scones served with seasonal jams and clotted cream. Liquid accompaniments include fine leaf teas, flutes of champagne and botanical gin cocktails.

The Library also offers a fixed evening menu featuring a modern take on the classics like Slow Roasted Gloucestershire Old Spot Pork Belly, Pan Seared Wood Pigeon, Curried Lamb Shoulder and puddings such as Sticky Toffee and Apple and Cinnamon Tart . To bookend your evening, choose a tipple from the Art Deco-style after-dinner drinks trolley, which will make its way around the restaurant.

A quintessentially English retreat in one of the city’s most vibrant areas, The Marriot County Hall Hotel is 4 minutes’ walk from Waterloo Station. The Library London can be accessed via the main entrance on Westminster Bridge Road or alternatively, enter via the South Bank (Queen's Walk), above the London Aquarium. Valet parking is also available on site.

I have had afternoon tea here several times and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. Darryl the manager took time to check that everything was good, and I really can't say enough how lovely the staff are. Can't wait to go back

Attentive and respectful service in a charming setting with interesting views to the Thames and the Palace of Westminster beyond. Enjoyed the afternoon tea food selection and in particular the delicious scones.

Having had an afternoon tea here at the end of 2017 and being thoroughly impressed with the food, service, staff, location and ambiance, this was my recommendation for a birthday celebration afternoon tea - four ladies in total. A lovely touch for the birthday girl when a lovely plate came out with a little dessert and happy birthday in chocolate writing. Again the service, staff, location and ambiance were excellent and the generosity of bottomless bubbles over 90 minutes was excellent for those of us who partook. Sadly we didn't feel the food was worthy of much mention as had been on our previous visit. We found the quality of what was offered good, but not that impressed with the selection offered nor the generosity of supply. Traditional afternoon tea was £39 per head and we had a deal for bottomless bubbles of £43 per head (weekend rate) - which we thought value for money - not for the food but saved by the bubbles for those of us who had that. Not sure I would be so confident to return again unfortunately unless the slim pickings of food improves.

Food sounded nice on the menu but was a bit strange when it arrived, every dish had an element that just didn’t work. The sparkling wine that was part of the deal we booked was not provided. A vodka and Diet Coke was over £13 which is excessive even for central London. The restaurant was practically empty on a Friday night and had no atmosphere. The main reason I would not return though is the food which was ok at best.

Disappointed as booked a Champagne Cream Tea and was told it was Cava! Sandwiches basic ham and cheese and dry. Crayfish was nice but salmon swirls my friend found a large bone in. Didn't want to complain as it was for my friend's birthday. Cakes were unpleasant too. Would not recommend.
