Offering postcard-worthy views over Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, The Library serves up a delicious afternoon tea throughout the day and a sumptuous set supper at night. Located in the Marriott County Hall Hotel, The Library features oak bookcases stacked with the classics and busts of literary and historical figures like Shakespeare, Plato and Milton, which transport diners back to the glamorous era of the 1920s.

On The Library menu, afternoon tea features freshly cut finger sandwiches filled with reimagined classics like chives and hot smoked salmon with crème fraîche in mini brioche buns, watercress egg mayo on brown loaf bread, and coronation chicken on carrot loaf bread. Irresistible arrangements of cakes and fancies include salted caramel chocolate cups, strawberry meringue nest and white chocolate raspberry tart, as well as sweet and savoury scones served with seasonal jams and artisanal cheeses. Liquid accompaniments include fine leaf teas, flutes of champagne and botanical gin cocktails.

The Library also offers a fixed evening menu featuring a modern take on the classics like seasonal game terrine with cranberry and orange jam, pan-fried cod with celeriac chips and pea salsa, and puddings such as gin and tonic syllabub served with candied cucumber. To bookend your evening, choose a tipple from the Art Deco-style after-dinner drinks trolley, which will make its way around the restaurant.

A quintessentially English retreat in one of the city’s most vibrant areas, The Marriot County Hall Hotel is 4 minutes’ walk from Waterloo Station. The Library London can be accessed via the main entrance on Westminster Bridge Road or alternatively, enter via the South Bank (Queen's Walk), above the London Aquarium. Valet parking is also available on site.

The location is great, both the room itself and the river view.
The tea was excellent, very beautifully presented and the bubbles flowed freely.

The Library is a beautiful room with a wonderful view out of the window we were seated at of the Parliament and the London Eye. The tea was probably the best I've ever had and the food was delicious. There were five in our party and, even though the meal consisted of hor d'oeuvres and pastries, we were not able to finish it all. We particularly liked the Curry Chicken Salad and Smoked Salmon canapes and all of the pastries. The service was very good and we never felt rushed. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who stays in London.

There were 6 of us that went and I’d found the menu online before we got there. They were very welcoming but told us the menu had now changed. Positives of the day - little sausage rolls with relish in the end were lovely as were the mini quiches, they brought out extra bits when we asked and were very diligent on keeping our glasses topped up. The bathroom facilities were also nice and very clean!!
Negatives - it wasn’t unlimited bubbles (we were told “this is your last top up), the sandwiches weren’t as good - we missed the roast beef with horseradish and the salmon. The sandwiches we got looked like they had some cheap meat in them.

The scones were lovely, you get a doggy bag to take with you, it’s a lovely setting and the staff were friendly but not too over attentive (I really don’t need people popping by every 2 minutes asking me if everything is ok - but that didn’t happen here).
Would definitely recommend - and there was no pressure on us to leave.

Really lovely setting with views across the Thames

I had a wonderful afternoon at afternoon tea here for a friend's birthday. The food was lovely - a great selection of savouries, sandwiches and sweet treats. We opted for the bottomless prosecco afternoon tea (which really was bottomless). The setting is lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and polite. Thank you for a lovely afternooon.

The afternoon tea was delightful and the waiters and waitresses were pleasant and helpful. The prosecco was definitely free flowing and we could have asked for more food had we wanted it.

We booked the Library for the view and the free flowing bubbles, unfortunately the view was somewhat marred by the scaffolding around Big Ben and Westminster but was compensated for by the miniature Big Ben on the hotel forecourt (great photo op) and the truly free flowing bubbles. The quiche, sausage rolls and other savoury treats made a nice change to the usual afternoon tea finger sandwiches and a choice of sweet or savoury scones was also appreciated. Our waiter kept the bubbles topped up and there was no pressure to leave once the bill was paid. Would definitely recommend to others particularly if you have a less sweet tooth.

We had a nice meal with good attentive service in pleasant surroundings. One thing we were a little annoyed about was to be told that the 12.5% service charge was not given to the waitress and we were asked if we would like to leave a tip. We would prefer the restaurant to be up front with their prices and not do a backdoor price rise.
