Excellent tea, very helpful staff from when I first entered the hotel and superb service by the dining staff during our tea. The Brioche buns, sweet & savoury scones were totally delicious & I barely had room for the gorgeous jewel like cakes.

Offering postcard-worthy views over Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, The Library serves up a delicious afternoon tea throughout the day and a sumptuous set supper at night. Located in the Marriot County Hall Hotel, The Library features oak bookcases stacked with the classics and busts of literary and historical figures like Shakespeare, Plato and Milton, which transport diners back to the glamorous era of the 1920s.

On The Library menu, afternoon tea features freshly cut finger sandwiches filled with reimagined classics like chives and hot smoked salmon with crème fraîche in mini brioche buns, watercress egg mayo on brown loaf bread, and coronation chicken on carrot loaf bread. Irresistible arrangements of cakes and fancies include salted caramel chocolate cups, strawberry meringue nest and white chocolate raspberry tart, as well as sweet and savoury scones served with seasonal jams and artisanal cheeses. Liquid accompaniments include fine leaf teas, flutes of champagne and botanical gin cocktails.

The Library also offers a fixed evening menu featuring a modern take on the classics like seasonal game terrine with cranberry and orange jam, pan-fried cod with celeriac chips and pea salsa, and puddings such as gin and tonic syllabub served with candied cucumber. To bookend your evening, choose a tipple from the Art Deco-style after-dinner drinks trolley, which will make its way around the restaurant.

A quintessentially English retreat in one of the city’s most vibrant areas, The Marriot County Hall Hotel is 4 minutes’ walk from Waterloo Station. The Library London can be accessed via the main entrance on Westminster Bridge Road or alternatively, enter via the South Bank (Queen's Walk), above the London Aquarium. Valet parking is also available on site.

Delicious meal. Excellent service and the venue was exceptional.
Would have been even better if vegetables were more prevalent.

Really good afternoon tea. Attentive staff, plenty of bubbles (we had to refuse another glass!) and an excellent choice of savoury and sweet items. Have tried various places in London for afternoon tea and would return to this one. The library itself is an unusual and different venue and the tables aren't too closely packed together. Be aware though 12.5% service charge - but to be fair the service was very good.

The setting where we had our afternoon tea was perfect. we had a table for 7 people in an alcove overlooking the Thames, Big Ben and Houses of parliament. The afternoon tea was lovely. There was sandwiches, and savoury scones with cream cheese and tomato as well as plain scones with cream and jam and the fizz flowed. our glass was never empty. definately going back.

Based on the marketing pictures, the space is disappointing - the view is not quite of Parliament unless you crane to the left; the long space is rather gloomy and would benefit from more side lighting. The tea is brought out on a tiered stand which means the scones (when you get to them) are cold and the cream cakes are warm. Sandwich fillings not very recognisable - none of us realised we had had smoked salmon and asked for some, then realised it was a mousse-type salmon that we couldn't recognise! Overall, the food edible but not memorable.
