Offering postcard-worthy views over Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, The Library serves up a delicious afternoon tea throughout the day and a sumptuous set supper at night. Located in the Marriott County Hall Hotel, The Library features oak bookcases stacked with the classics and busts of literary and historical figures like Shakespeare, Plato and Milton, which transport diners back to the glamorous era of the 1920s.

On The Library menu, afternoon tea features freshly cut finger sandwiches filled with reimagined classics like chives and hot smoked salmon with crème fraîche in mini brioche buns, watercress egg mayo on brown loaf bread, and coronation chicken on carrot loaf bread. Irresistible arrangements of cakes and fancies include salted caramel chocolate cups, strawberry meringue nest and white chocolate raspberry tart, as well as sweet and savoury scones served with seasonal jams and artisanal cheeses. Liquid accompaniments include fine leaf teas, flutes of champagne and botanical gin cocktails.

The Library also offers a fixed evening menu featuring a modern take on the classics like seasonal game terrine with cranberry and orange jam, pan-fried cod with celeriac chips and pea salsa, and puddings such as gin and tonic syllabub served with candied cucumber. To bookend your evening, choose a tipple from the Art Deco-style after-dinner drinks trolley, which will make its way around the restaurant.

A quintessentially English retreat in one of the city’s most vibrant areas, The Marriot County Hall Hotel is 4 minutes’ walk from Waterloo Station. The Library London can be accessed via the main entrance on Westminster Bridge Road or alternatively, enter via the South Bank (Queen's Walk), above the London Aquarium. Valet parking is also available on site.

We are regulars here and usually really enjoy it. Unfortunately this time the restaurant was empty so no atmosphere at all. The Service was also incredibly slow. We filled up our own wine glasses and the empty dishes were left on our table for a long time. It was a disappointing experience as we had brought friends from New York to dine here and sadly we did not have the positive experience we have enjoyed here before.

The Library is a lovely setting overlooking the river and Westminster Bridge. The service was very good and they did not skimp on the bottomless champagne. Unfortunately the afternoon tea was very disappointing. The bread was slightly stale, the fillings tasteless. The savoury scones did not taste of anything and the fruit scones had approx two sultanas in each! The assortment of cakes was very uninspiring and not particularly nice. The best one was the macaroon which was delicious.

Iconic location and unique authentic setting in a real old library. The atmosphere of the room is totally unique and so is the view. A true hidden gem once visited, never forgotten I had been intrigued by The Library for a long time, but not being a fan of afternoon teas never had the opportunity to go. So I was delighted to see they started to serve dinner too and went immediately with very high expectations. I was not disappointed. I loved the experience. The room is truly magnificent, the tables are set beautifully (lovely glasses), and the service impeccable. The menu is fairly limited, but between us we tasted a good sample of the dishes on offer and all enjoyed our choice very much. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience.

The starters and main courses were very good, but the desserts were poor (we found out they were made in a different kitchen by a different team). The location is lovely, with stunning views of the River Thames. The room is pretty, and the restaurant is quiet. Service was very mixed. When we arrived we actually had to go into the kitchen to find a member of staff to seat us, as there were no members of staff anywhere in or around the restaurant for the full five minutes we were wandering around looking for someone. Once seated the service was extremely slow and we had to repeatedly ask to have our order taken, and that continued throughout the meal. A mixed experience overall, with some good points, but would not rush to eat here again.

The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and professional. However, the Afternoon Teac food was very disappointing. If I was not entertaining a friend's daughter, I would have complained to the manager. The sandwiches were dull and did not match the description in the menu, some of the sandwiches were made with stale bread, and the scones were stale. I give stars for the staff and the view; zero stars for the food.

Absolutely lovely! We had a pre theatre 3 course dinner. They were aware we were on a time constraint and were attentive and prompt. The menu was great and the food was excellent. What a brilliant venue.
