Cucumber sandwiches were very inventive using dill and mint. Silver teapot and coffee pot were beautiful. Service was outstanding. Loved sitting near the window to see to front of hotel. Arrived early and had drinks in the bar / lounge before going through to dining area. Felt like a home dressed exquisitely for Christmas. Favourite Christmas tree decoration was red reindeer near dining room. All staff very helpful and supportive when we let them know we had never been to The Goring before and were not sure how to settle our bill.

My friends enjoyed their afternoon tea. Although the price for the afternoon tea is clearly stated on the hotel’s website, there was a hidden additional charge

It was great until a waiter brought me English breakfast tea instead of Earl Gray which I ordered. After that, he splashed while pouring tea for one of my friend and didn't apoligize.

The service we received while having afternoon tea was superior. We spent a leisurely couple of hours there and never once felt rushed. My husband has a nut allergy and they were more than prepared as we had notified them of this in the reservation. Our friends who accompanied us said it was one of their highlights of the trip and I must agree. Favorite dish were the scones, but everything was delicious. Come hungry because the offerings are more than enough to fill you up. The tea selection was deep and highest quality.

I was very disappointed with the Afternoon Tea which was served to my friend and myself on Tuesday, 5th November, 2019. Having visited the hotel a few years ago I had expected the same high standard as before. I am sorry to say that the small starter pot was tasteless. I asked the waiter what it was but because of his very broken English I was uncertain of what it was. The sandwiches were quite bland, the very small scones quite hard and the cakes not that appetising.
