We live in Australia & afternoon tea at the the Goring is a special treat whenever we visit London. We have never been disappointed until now. The first piece was to be strawberries & cream... after many apologies and it won’t be long we were asked could we have strawberries at the end.. of course we said yes. We were told that the food would be replenished... this did not happen. We were never asked anything. The strawberries & cream did not ever appear. The quality of the food was not up to the standard we expect of the Goring. What I would have expected from a fabulous brand like the Goring is that we would have been offered an extra glass of champagne or our bill would have been reduced. Just “ feel good” service gestures. But nothing happened & while the server apologised its not good enough. The service was poor from start to finish. I am so glad we didn’t take our relatives with us. £72 is expensive for Australian’s and I would have been embarrassed had they been with us as we talk in glowing terms of the Goring. Not sure we will have afternoon tea at the Goring on our next visit to London.

We really enjoyed our afternoon tea - one of the best! Although we missed having egg sandwiches.

Disappointed really, didn’t get the super star treatment I previously have received. Staff not attentive at all and no explanation of any of the sandwiches, scones or cakes. Haven’t a clue what I had. My friend pre-ordered gluten free and his was totally missed. But we had to raise it every single time! An answer of “I think it might be gluten free” is not really good enough, had to urge the waitress to check with the kitchen.
Had to wait for ages to get the attention of staff and didn’t feel listened to.
Felt really sad and not very valued by the Goring, which is a real shame.
Also flagged that it was my friends birthday, this was missed as well.
The goring has become our new favourite place for a treat but will probably return to Claridges next time - which is a shame.

Hi we arrived an hour early for our afternoon tea. We wanted to sit in the bar for a drink first but was no tables available. So we sat where we were to have afternoon tea. It got to 4.15 and we asked for afternoon tea as was booked for 4pm . Still by 4.50 we had to ask again . Service wasn’t great . Afternoon tea was quite nice . We had a few drinks after and we had 3 Aperols each which we queried as should have consisted of Aperol soda water and either prossecco or champagne! Which none had prossecco or champagne as tasted more of soda water! At £17 each wasn’t exactly over the moon about it ! Like I say afternoon tea was nice but the day was let down by the service and the consistency of our drinks

Jut simply a wonderful experience in a most beautiful setting. Delicious sandwiches, tea biscuits and treats. Enjoyed the champagne and excellent welcoming service.

A very disappointing afternoon tea at the Goring which was to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday. The three tea pots were badly tarnished so no silver service and the service was lacklustre. We were not offered a fresh pot of tea after an hour and when asked the waitress said they were short of teapots.
I had been told by phone that as it was one of my guests birthday, he would be offered a birthday slice with one candle. This did not arrive.
I had requested a nice table but we werent placed in the two main rooms for afternoon tea but in a rather bleak verandah which had no special charm..
