A memorable afternoon we will not soon forget. A special afternoon tea with a complete service and dining experience. Outstanding service from a well trained, conversational, yet not stuffy, staff. Several great selections of tea and food items. The Goring hotel and private yard were just beautiful.

The services was superb - friendly, efficient, attentive. We arrived early and were seated (a hot London day) and given iced water. Food delicious!! It was my Sister's 80th birthday and they surprised her with a delightful pastry with a candle and "happy birthday" written in Chocolate. Boxed it for her to take home. Nice we could walk the garden after finishing our Tea.

I booked this as a special treat for my daughter and I ahead of her wedding in a couple of weeks time. I was not disappointed and The Goring lived up to its reputation as one of the best places for afternoon tea in London. The service was excellent as was the food. Well worth the cost for the experience. Thank you to you all at The Goring. Would love to visit again.

Charming hotel, afternoon tea very nice and staff very friendly but service a little slack. We ordered water that didn't arrive and had to remind them twice. We also then ordered a bottle of Bollinger Rose and a Cooler was left on the table but we had to pour ourselves, no one came round to top up. The restaurant wasn't overly busy as England were playing but I slightly suspected more from The Goring.

Welcoming staff, great service. Pleased to be asked if we wanted more sandwiches and cakes. I far prefer the dining room location to the more masculine bar area. Very well looked after!

Our first experience of Afternoon Tea at The Goring but hopefully not the last. We spent a very enjoyable afternoon in the relaxed atmosphere. The food was very good, delicious sandwiches, scones and eye catching pastries. The staff were pleasant and attentive. It ended with a special congratulatory cake as it was my birthday and wedding anniversary. Thank you for that added touch.

The food was horrendous, my guests said they imagine that is how afternoon tea tastes in 3* hotels.

The hostess seated us by saying “what’s your name? Isn’t is Brown or something?” How rude.

The amuse bouche was rubbery and flavourless. The sandwiches were almost empty of fillings and wet, as though they had been made hours earlier and left in a fridge. Not a great start. The flavours were also boring except the cheese and onion which we enjoyed. Four fingers per person was not sufficient for £60/head so we had to ask for more repeatedly. They were not offered. It was the same with tea, which we had to ask for repeatedly. The staff were dressed smartly and some were pleasant but there was a feeling of mass catering as the dining room filled at 1pm and emptied at 3pm. Not a luxurious or relaxing treat for my parents on Father’s Day.

The scones were fine but the jams did not taste homemade and were almost flavourless. The cakes were variable. The lemon meringue arrived at the table with squashed meringue on the top and details missing. We know this as the other platter had a good version of the same cake. Flavours in the cakes were indistinct. We did not eat them all and certainly didn’t want more even though only one type of each cake was served per couple so we couldn’t all taste everything. We would never return.

We had afternoon tea which was lovely. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were delicious and refillable! The dining room and staff were wonderful, the service as expected was impeccable. However the clientele was not to our taste. We had looked forward to the visit very much, my girlfriends and I plan our Ascot trip with much excitement and anticipation, always taking in afternoon tea at a London hotel. We were therefore saddened to be told off by one incredibly rude, sad old dinosaur of a man. We had moved outside due to the incredible heat inside. Sat quietly on the veranda enjoying our champagne, my friend had FaceTimed her son, to share her lovely experience. We were subjected to a verbal assault by the sad excuse of a man which left us saddened and uncomfortable. We were neither loud nor rude, he told us he visited the Goring every day, and that our behaviour was not acceptable... using a mobile phone in 2016?!!! , his attempted superiority and general demeanour showed us that although the Goring prides itself on old fashioned courteousness and values they definitely were not reflected in their guests. We will not visit again and nor would I recommend this hotel. It is an example of how the country is run, run by middle aged entitled men who think they can casually talk down to ladies who merely wanted to enjoy the charms of this hotel. And yes we are northern women, proud to be so and proud not to be of his type!
