Afternoon Tea at The Capital is just behind Harrods in a cozy tea room. The sandwiches were fresh and inventive and the cakes and scones were light and delicious. Not so much food we couldn’t finish. Quality over quantity. Prosecco was easy to drink and the bottomless option is recommended. The only feedback would be the speed of service there were very long waits for the tea and food. Thankfully they weren’t so slow on the Prosecco so that kept us going!

The service was minimal at the afternoon tea. The tea was poured right away but the food did not come for at least 20 minutes and by that time the tea had cooled. No service staff around to ask for hot tea. Later I had to get up to find someone in the hallway for directions to the ladies room and then after waiting more than 15 minutes at the end of the tea I had to get up to find someone for my bill. No one was watching the tea room although at times I could see at least 4 staff members walking in the hallway or across chatting in the restaurant.

This was the best experience of our city trip to London. The food was great and enough to fill like you eat a diner. There was plenty of choice for tea. The ambience of the afternoon tea room was lovely (quiet but warm). And we loved the service of the waiter. He knew a lot about the afternoon tea but also made a little chat with us about our home country.

Although the food and service was very good, we’d booked for the 8th Dec so expected a Christmas atmosphere, but unfortunately we were taken to a small room upstairs with just 5 tables. There were no decorations and therefore no atmosphere even though other tables were occupied. Afternoon Tea is meant to be a special treat and the complete lack of ambience spoilt this. The room downstairs was decorated however, so we felt we were placed in the “overflow” room and our experience suffered as a consequence. Lovely pleasant staff but the experience was not as hoped due to the reasons mentioned. We’re sure the experience “downstairs” was more festive.

It was my first time having afternoon tea in London and it was a lovely experience! The sitting room is so cosy and beautifully decorated and I felt so lucky to be the only guest there. The person who served me was very attentive and friendly and I really appreciated him explaining the different food items.
