Afternoon Tea at the Capital is a real treat - the food looks lovely and tastes delicious, without costing the absolute earth. The cakes this time had a Wimbeldon theme, which was a nice touch following the tournament.

Overall was lovely but alittle but disappointed that I dint get 3floor scone as I come from luxury Appetite which is a page from ffacebook my intention was to give free advertising for the outlaw so I could not have a perfect shooting however I got 2floors scones so I took the pic and already gave free advertising I have asked the waitress he told me 3floor is for more than 1ppl but as I went there alone so I could only get the2floor scone.
Anyway ,the service was excellent and all is lovely

Scones were terrific. Tea was also delightful. The macaroons were atrocious. Hard, brittle, and not appetizing.

We arrived at The Capital a little early and were sat in the bar area whilst our table was being finished. Once ready, we were moved into the tea room and handed our menus, prompt drinks orders were taken and shortly after the food arrived, once finished we asked for more sandwiches and those arrived just as promptly. As the afternoon tea commenced it had slipped my mind that I had commented on the booking that it was my boyfriends birthday and they surprised him with a birthday plate on the tea stand. Further more to this as the afternoon tea completed and the stand was being removed, they took a final cocktail order as we were reaching our 2hr slot and handed him a small gift on behalf of the hotel. A lot of establishments don't understand that the small touches are what brings customers back and this hotel have nailed it on the head. As we paid and left the gentleman who had been in charge (didn't catch his name - however his service is impeccable and commendable) offered us water for the walk as it was a warm day...and we had had a few cocktails. I would definitely return to The Capital.

My friends and I have been going out to brunch or tea monthly for most of 2017, and was the worst of the ones we've been to.
    Food:
They did offer us additional sandwiches after our first serving, but the sandwiches were not that great. The fillings were too thin (except the salmon, which was nice). The cakes were better and there was one cake which was a favourite (sponge with caramel creme and chocolate ganache icing). The macaroons were very dry and not all of us liked the elderflower jelly (too sweet). We had to ask three people for extra cream and jam for the scones, but more on the service later.
    Drinks
This was advertised as 'free flowing Bellinis and Cosmos', which is only partly true. We had to keep asking for refills and this was never consistent. Sometimes someone came around and filled our glasses, sometimes our glasses were taken away and replaced, sometimes we had no glasses. One of us was drinking cosmos and her drink was served in a different type of glass every time. The Bellinis were so sugary and heavy on the peach that you could not taste the prosecco at all (you couldn't even see the bubbles). I couldn't finish my cakes because I was full and overdosed with sugar from the Bellinis.
    Service
Wow. This was the most bizarre service we've ever had. It started off OK, as the gentleman who seated us took our orders and got our teas right, but it went downhill from there. One waitress was seriously clueless: she filled up my Bellini and left my friend's drink empty so that we had to ask her to refill it. She stared at us as if we'd asked her for nuclear launch codes. When bringing new tea, she brought the wrong one and then left the empty pots on the table, so her manager to step in and he made it worse (eg taking away all the pots, new and empty, and mixing up the teas so that both friends' teas ended up in each others' cups). She did bring out new pots, but she forgot the cups, so she had to go back and get those, etc.

Great afternoon on the hottest day of the year so far. The staff explained the food etc and the cake/sweet selection was generous. The cocktails went down a treat. The Duty Manager even came to make our fan swivel. Definitely recommend.
