This was my second time here in 2 months and the service was simply excellent! The afternoon tea was also great and the surroundings are exquisite!

Cafe Royal is an experience of old grandeur. It is a quality place to dine. I enjoyed the subtle piano music, the friendly service, and of course the refillable sandwiches, cakes and teas.

Afternoon tea at Cafe Royale was a lovely and memorable experience. The room all gilt nd mirrors is out of the ordinary. The staff were polite and efficient, the choice of teas was extensive, and all were served in the traditional way and were delicious. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were all fresh and plentiful. I would definitely return.

This was such an amazing experience and I would highly recommend it. Tried the Silver Needle white tea and that was quite enjoyable plus my favorite ~ Earl Grey. Ambiance cannot be beat - well worth the price and the servers were attentive and kind.

Unfortunately our afternoon tea was far from good; i actually regret booking it.
I've been to afternoon tea several times at this venue, and year after year the standard seem to go down. Such a shame.
We were hoping for the after tea experience, and at £42 pp I'd expect exactly that. Been sadly we didn't get this. We were a party of 3, and we were squashed onto a tiny tiny table. The whole seating was rushed fro me start to finish. All our food was bought out in one go! I've never seen such a thing. Usually you get your amuse a bouche, sandwiches, and then sweets; however everything was bought over in one go. There was barely enough room for our tea and teapots on the table , let alone the food, and all of it at that.
We had to continuously ask for small things, such as sugar, milk, forks, spoons. It was draining, and actually so annoying. Towards the end of our booking, the manager came over and said 'you have 10 mins left for your table', basically a polite way of saying 'hurry up, eat and go'. This was so off putting, as the manager couldn't clearly see we had finished our dishes and we would have obviously left soon enough.
Our party left feeling slightly embarrassed and Unsatisfied. Needless to say, I shall never be going to Cafe Royal. It's no longer the same place...

I booked afternoon tea at the Cafe Royal as it won in the afternoon tea awards. The room is very opulent looking a bit like a better condition Versailles! The tea itself was very nice. I'm vegetarian so I was brought special sandwiches; we had our sandwiches replenished before the scones and cakes were given to us. The scones were still warm. The choices of teas were fine and as I wanted soya milk and someone wanted lemon slices this was accommodated.
My only criticism would be on the service which is incredibly friendly and they explain the menu but it's a little too laid back. The tea went cold so we had to order more and in other places they have been a bit more attentive.
The other thing is the slightly strange pricing which is a price for standard afternoon tea, a price for afternoon tea plus a candle gift (not a gift if you're paying for it), then a price for the gift plus champagne. Weirdly there wasn't a price for champagne afternoon tea although you could order a glass.
One special mention for a member of staff is for Max the doorman who summoned the cab for us from across Regent Street.
