You’re greeted with a warm welcome and fantastic ambience where you’re offered a cocktail in the lounge. Once in the restaurant it is small and intimate with enough room to enjoy private conversation. The food is imaginative and contemporary without being pretentious and the wine flight we chose suited each course perfectly. You’re sure to be in experienced and knowledgable hands whilst dining at The French!

We had the tasting menu. It is one of the best we have ever had leaving mesmerising flavours after each coarse. Cannot pick the best they all had their own unique flavours. The service and staff were second to none.

Could not fault the Initials tasting menu, and the "snacks" before the meal where really tasty too. My partner and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary, so it was something different, would highly recommend. The beef butter however is an acquired taste, not ours I'm afraid, but this was only a small personal taste issue. The chefs served each course and explained them thoroughly, a real personal touch :).

I can honestly say it was a fantastic experience dining here. The food was absolutely first-class. Every single dish in the menu was superb. It's hard to pick a favourite, but if pushed I'd say it was the Native lobster with pickled Cheshire tomatoes and courgette. The service was excellent too. Thanks for a great evening treat.

From start to finish this was a wonderful experience. The food on the signature menu was terrific. It started off emphatically with the broth, then the cod roe added a lovely change of pace. The lobster dish took it up another level, wonderfully balancing the shell fish against a fresh and zesty tomato salad. The ash infused sirloin tater, served with malted sourdough and a delectably airy beef butter, kept the standards high and the cod with elderflower hollandaise and fried beans was a masterpiece. The chicken dish didn't quite hit the same heights but did give a cosy homely feeling; befitting of the ambience at this point in the sitting. Both desserts, while being enjoyable, failed to ignite the drama of earlier dishes with the prune, honey, st james and almanac dish failing to really harmonise. The conversation about wine ultimately led to a wonderful choice made for us, a zesty, slightly dry and crisp white Stopham Estate. Mr Reid even took the time to leave a note on my partners menu to wish her a happy birthday. The kind of finesse that encapsulated the experience at The French.

A great venue, with stunning food. The re-constructed “tater-hash” was stunning as was the toasted St James cheese with honey, walnut crisp and Armagnac prunes. My wife loved the freshness of the lobster with pickled tomato and courgette.

Fabulous meal (the Great British Menu option) in an intimate restaurant. All dishes explained by a chef upon serving. Some lovely surprises within the dishes which enhanced our experience. Front of house were very welcoming - lovely evening. Thank you to everyone at the French. Highly recommended.

I visit this resturant every year for our wedding aniversary. It's not disapointed so far and we always enjoy our experience. Fingers crossed Manchester finally achieves a Michelin star restuarant and the French should be the one to get it!
