I love coming here - the staff are always so welcoming and the food is delicious. This time we had Adam's Great British Menu meal and it was fantastic! Also, the man himself was in the kitchen and he came out for a chat :-) We've only lived up here for a year but The French has become our go-to restaurant for special occasions (and any other occasion!)

The chicken main course was absolutely superb. All in all every dish with wine flight work well together.

Visited for a special celebration. The whole experience was simply amazing. Front of house hostess, very welcoming, very attentive throughout without being 'too much'. Staff very professional and extremely personable. The food and wine flight was such a culinary experience. The quality of the food and the way each course was presented was excellent. A visit from Chef to our table was the icing on the cake!! The ambience, the stunning decor, even the very appropriate background music which complemented the 'Northern' aspect of the "Great British Menu" perfectly, all added to an amazing dining experience!!

Re the 9 course taster with wine flight: - An excellent meal overall, but 'the star of the show' one would expect to be the main course, however this was most disappointing as the lamb was just lukewarm & its fat was not crispy, plus it was visually uninspiring as just a plate of 'brown'. Wines were perfect but a noticeable absence of a glass of champagne & canape (cf Aiden Byrne's M'cr restaurant). The deserts were beautifully presented and delicious, the best I have ever had, & the soup was incredible - but overall the menu lacked a little luxury & theatre. In conclusion:- Adam Reid & his team provided good food with excellent service.
