Overall good, but not amazing or memorable. Our guests were delayed but entry staff were kind and didn't pressure us. We were shown to our table and waited for our first course... and waited...and waited. until after 45 minutes of just waiting, we thought we should check... turns out the lady who showed us in had not kickstarted our food service. so then we had to wait another 10 before the first course arrived. Usually on a tasting you get a couple of nice little surprises throughout the meal too - something to start maybe, a palate cleanser after the main, or a choc at end - but only a shot-sized beef tea broth at beginning which was tasty, but would have been nice to have something else later too. Food reasonably priced for a tasting menu - 6 courses @ £65 each. The main course - a duck dish - had too much fat on contained some strange crunch in the lentils which was like the shells of grain (chaff). one plates had a piece of bone mixed in too (an earlier dish). The wine choice was incredibly extensive - 19 pages i think - but a serious lack of choice for reasonably priced wine. Most bottles were hundreds of pounds each, a decent amount were £65 to £100, but only maybe 3 or 4 that were under £50.00 (more choice of wine OVER £1000.00 a bottle than under £50.00) We opted for an Argentinian Malbec @ £45.00 - tasty but worth more like £30 in a restaurant. For some reason we got another waitress half way through called Sophie who was lovely - it was her first shift and she was very chatty and lovely. cannot fault her. But then Sophie left before we did, so we could not tip her directly so hopefully she received the money we left for her service. The Sommelier was not on his game that night. All in all, a few mistakes, a little bit of not great food. overpriced wine. reasonably well priced food. fair overall service. 6/10 from us sorry.

Fantastic meal. My wife and I had the 'taster' menu with the wine package. Can't say one dish was better than another, but if pushed, I would say the Halibut dish was the stand-out. All the staff were friendly and attentive and all the dishes and wines were explained in a way that was easy to understand. Excellent, would recommend to anyone. As in the words of 'Arnie' - 'we'll be back'. In fact we did the day after, we went for Afternoon Tea with some friends.

Seating area whilst waiting for table to be prepared was very relaxed inside the Midland Hotels lovely foyer. We ordered some Gin and Tonic's that were bought over to us. Restaurant was very relaxed atmosphere with nice interior that was neither too formal nor too casual. Service was amazing with perfect level of communication between staff and customer - not intrusive whatsoever. Chef's served their specific dishes and explained to them us, happy to repeat anything that we may have misheard. The curried Cornish squid with spinach and potato was incredible as well as the gigha halibut and trout roe sauce. All the dishes were really great however and perfect portion sizes for a 6 course menu. One of the best restaurants I have eaten at, particularly in the UK. Amazing experience would definitely go again.
