Restaurant description

Adam Reid at The French perfectly marries the old and new, and is a dining experience to be remembered. While the restaurant is steeped in history, the menu offers modern British food that delivers consistently excellent flavours, made using only the very best seasonal produce available.

The French offers outstanding levels of service, warmth and elegance that in turn, create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere like no other in Manchester. Guests can choose from small, medium or large set menu and wine flights, offering supremely elegant tasting journeys.

The French restaurant boasts 4 AA Rosettes and features in the Good Food Guide 2019 at Number 13, the only restaurant in the Greater Manchester area to make it into the top 50 of the prestigious guide. The French also ranked 79th in The National Restaurant Awards 2016.

    There's only one way to describe the food, wine or whole experience, amazing! The music was a nice unexpected surprise, it really created the right ambiance at the chefs counter. Thoroughly recommended.

    Adam Reid at the French provided an excellent dining experience to catch up with an old friend. Having looked for to the prospect of dining at the French for several years, neither of us were disappointed. Outstanding cuisine with a well thought out flight of wines to match. Good honest flavours with a hint of northern soul. Get in quick before the restaurant gets starred!

    The restaurant is small and therefore more intimate than I had expected. The food was very good (not 'out of this world' good but very acceptable). The wines chosen for each course were interesting and nicely varied but also complimentary to the food. The waiting staff, especially the wine waiter, were excellent and provided a useful and interesting commentary to the meal without becoming intrusive. The cod was superb and the ginger & cream dessert was a very nice finale. It was a lovely evening n very pleasant surroundings.

    Hands down the best restaurant in Manchester and has been since it opened. How Michelin have failed to award Adam Reid at the French at least a star is utterly beyond me. I've eaten worse meals at Michelin two star restaurants!!!

    Had a superb 6 course taster lunch. The food was truly amazing especially the Tatar’ash and the red deer. The desert left us licking the bowl. We didn’t order the accompanying wines but ordered from the cocktail menu. We thought this was a bit too expensive. Other than that had an absolutely amazing experience.

    We have eaten here three times previously, but this evening's meal surpassed the others. A miserable, drizzly Manchester night was combatted by earthy, intensely flavoured comfort food, but still precisely cooked. How do they get cranberries to taste so good? Service was friendly, comfortably polite, attentive to detail, knowledgeable and precise (bit like the cooking). Best dish - venison main course. Main courses can be something of an anticlimax in taster menus, but this was the true pinnacle of the meal. Although there was so much to delight - every plate was cooked to perfection, balanced flavours and textures with not a soil or foam in sight.

    Nothing but exceptional food, service and ambience for this amazing restaurant. Had always wanted to come here for dinner upon my multiple visits to Manchester and I'm glad I had the opportunity to dine here. Sitting solo at the bar, watching the food being prepared and seeing the love, care and freshness put into the dishes made my heart warm. Look forward to returning.
