Exceptional service, and mostly excellent food. The staff were very attentive without being obtrusive, and we had the 9 course tasting menu, 8 courses of which were very good, and some simply perfect. The scallops with swede in a beef broth was beautiful, and the "easy peeler" dessert was incredible. The treacle ham course was an unfortunate low for the menu, with the majority of the course being bland and gloopy ham fat, and the sauce was frankly not very good. It was a shame that was the final savoury course.

Overall I'd say that was the only flaw in an otherwise perfect evening, however.

A wonderful evening. Warm, friendly and relaxed welcome and service. Superb food with brilliant vegetarian version for one and meat and fish for the other. Clear flavours and fascinating taste combinations without the fussiness of foams and dribbles. A delight in explaining and demonstrating how the dishes are put together and how herbs are grown inside the restaurant. An absolute pleasure to be presented with his own dishes by Adam Reid himself though all the staff were knowledgeable and could describe the dishes slowly enough for us to take them in. Part of the pleasure of the food is to savour the description before having the taste. Absolutely magical.

The French serves a tasting menu with very sophisticated, original cooking, without ever crossing the line into "too original". The food was interesting but always harmonious and really delicious. Service was excellent, i was especially impressed by how the entire staff was very well informed about what was being served. It was a wonderful experience. Not cheap but worth the price. i hope I will have the chance to go again some day.

Hi It was our second visit and was again impressed by the decor and the service Jake in particular was excellent.Food was generally first class but as at out last visit when the lamb was rather tastless this time the ham was rather greasy with a lot of fat and it was very tough .We mentioned this to the staff. Didn't think the Empire dessert was special enough to warrant a £20 supplement

The whole overall experience was amazing. I had an earlier booking therefore the restaurant was empty and both the staff and the chef's did everything to make me feel comfortable and welcome. The food was incredible , I was booked in for a four course taster menu and everything was delicious. Especially the sugared orange with sea buckthorn mousse for dessert! Will be back soon !

Started quite well with the courses but as the menu progressed I thought the courses lacked flavour And did not excite my wife who had some courses substituted as she does not eat fish thought the courses designed for her where lacking in thought for instance she was told just before a substitute dish of beef that it was not available and chef has organised a different course of cauliflower instead beef to cauliflower is some change especially as no choice was given then to show the lack of thought our next course was cauliflower attention to detail poor suggest chef goes to Moor Hall to learn how to produce excellent food with style

Absolutely fantastic, loved the taster menus, The French, and the experience, just wish the mark up on the wine wasn't so excessive. So it's only 4 stars but the food really deserves 5 stars. Definately Quality over Quantity and better for it in my book

We celebrated our daughter’s 21st birthday and it was all we wanted it to be. The restaurant itself is splendid with 2 spectacular crystal lights and plush velvet seats. It looks like it could be formal dining but the atmosphere was relaxed and the service was attentive, but not over zealous which I dislike.
The 9 course taster menu was delicious, and as we went through it was hard to pick a favourite with each new course surpassing what came before: On reflection for me it was between the scallop (melt in your mouth perfection) served with baked swede and beef broth; the fried cavalo with tunworth mousse and truffle or the curried pigeon. I didn’t relish this when I saw it on the menu but the pigeon was a dream with the sweetness of the date and the liver mousse.
The Clementine dessert looked amazing and the taste buds were not disappointed.
The wine flight was a careful selection of wines, some from less well promoted regions which made the experience all the more interesting. The wines were skilfully matched to our foods, complimenting each course. If I had to choose a favourite it would be the German pinot noir.
What a shame we don’t live in Manchester and wont be able to return soon. Well done to Adam Reid and his team.
