Zur letzten Instanz“ was founded back in 1621 and is reputedly the oldest restaurant in Berlin. Guests including Napoleon, Maxim Gorki and Heinrich Zille are all said to have dined here. Based on the court-room theme, dishes feature unusual names like Anwaltsfrühstück (Lawyer's Breakfast), Beleidigungs-Klage (Libel Action) and Einstweilige Verfügung (Temporary Injunction). Hiding behind these novel names are such traditional Berlin dishes as knuckle of pork and Spreewaldgurke (pickled gherkins). The 7-course taster menu is ideal for sampling what's on offer. Connected via a baroque spiral staircase, the two dining rooms can cater for 120 covers. The comfortable beer garden boasts a further 50 places.
