Awarded a Michelin star in its opening year, Yauatcha is a slick Soho hideaway serving modern Chinese delicacies and dim sum. Designed by the acclaimed Christian Liaigre, the dining room features an open kitchen for views of the chefs.

Specialising in small plates and all-day grazing offerings, the Yauatcha menu showcases delicate steamed dim sum, fresh seafood, and sumptuous oriental-style meats. Enjoy favourites like braised Somerset lamb with black pepper sauce, Mongolian-style venison, or jasmine tea-smoked ribs.

Bespoke desserts are crafted with the utmost skill at Yauatcha in Soho, with handmade chocolates and macarons on offer, as well as mandarin macadamia, or a summery raspberry delice. Fruity and cleansing cocktails are mixed using the finest available ingredients, while the drinks list features vintage wines, sakes, and flowering teas.

A sister restaurant of the celebrated Hakkasan fleet, Yauatcha in London sits 8 minutes’ walk from Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus Tube Stations.

Unfortunately my dining experience at yautcha was far from what I expected. I have visited this restaurant in the past and therefore booked it this time for my 30th anniversary. I was shocked to discover a hair, not once, but twice, in two different dishes I ordered. Once in the fried dim sum and the other time in the steamed, appeared a full length hair. To my surprise, besides apologizing, the staff could only make it up to us with a free desert at the end of the dinner. Needless to say, that a restaurant with this reputation should definitely not be this careless and have hairs in the food, in addition to that, I would at least expect more then a free desert, as a compensation. Only when I told this to the manager, after handing me the full bill, he was willing to make a discount. In my opinion, it was a shame I had to ask, and it wasn't offered automatically by him.

Food was excellent would love to try more from the menu - first time eating dim sum and yummy.
My only criticism was the amount of very small fruit fly's which kept interrupting eating our food hopefully gone by the time of our next visit.

The dim sum, noodles and cakes were superb as usual. We especially love scallops and the Char Kway Teow. We took our boy for his birthday with his friend and the candle on the slate was a really nice touch. However, the service, although polite, was incredibly slow and the entire meal dragged on for 2.15 minutes. That is ironic given the pressure you put on customers to arrive on time and that you force people to give up the table within 2 hours. It took fifteen minutes to get the drinks at the start of the meal and the first course took another half an hour after that so we had been there an hour before any food arrived which had clearly been sitting around downstairs for a while as it was tepid. We often tried to get the attention of the many waiters (there was no shortage) but they were very inattentive and we felt ignored. We have been to the restaurant many times before but sat downstairs where service has not been a problem - maybe it is a problem with how the upstairs space is run? Given that the service charge is compulsory as part of the bill you really need to think about how you are training your staff to be faster and more attentive.
