The mozarello and tomato salad was delicious, we all enjoyed our meals. Great to see so many veggie options.

Awarded 2 AA Rosettes, WinePress at Donnington Valley Hotel serves a diverse range of seasonal European cuisine. Amongst Berkshire’s green hills, Donnington Valley’s landscaped gardens are a delightful setting for al fresco dining, afternoon tea, or enjoying after-dinner cocktails.

The inventive WinePress menu reflects the head chef’s 20+ years at the hotel. Start with the luxurious ham hock and foie gras terrine with beetroot chutney and toasted brioche, before piquant Szechuan pork with apple and vanilla purée.

Delicious French desserts are a Winepress speciality, with praline Paris-Brest, apple feuillantine and creamy lemon dacquoise. WinePress dining takes place in an informal, bright space with vaulted beams straddling the spacious balcony-lined dining room.

An uncommonly comprehensive wine list boasting over 350 world vintages has won multiple plaudits from Johansens and Wine Spectator, with the WinePress sommelier happy to guide you. A country location not far from town, WinePress Restaurant at Donnington Valley Hotel is a 7-minute drive from Newbury Train Station.

This is our second time we booked afternoon tea with you. The first time was a lot better than this experience if being honest. The restaurant had the doors leading to the outside wide open which had a cold breeze blowing through and the weather outside today was raining and windy.
There were no menus on the table so you didn't know what you were ordering or what fillings where in the sandwiches or cakes. If I had a allergy to something I would be none of the wiser and wasn't asked if this was the case. The sandwiches cakes and scones overall where very nice. However i found the staff don't really acknowledge the guests as it took us ages to get someone's attention that we wanted another pot of tea. The table behind us had to physically go and ask someone. We felt uncomfortable to actually ask for another pot of tea, in most places when dining out your waitress will initially come and as you if everything is ok, I found this very strange and also as though the staff didn't want to mix with the guests. Maybe this is an atmosphere they are trying to create but in my eyes it's the wrong one.
A lot of the afternoon teas I have been to also use the old fashion style of tea leaves for there tea to give you that different experience and make style tea tastes better.

The afternoon tea was excellent but we were very disappointed by the service. Initially it was good and then no one came near us we had to get up and find someone to order more drinks and get the bill. We were the only ones in the restaurant, surely the service should be excellent so we encourage others to come.

We came for afternoon tea which was lovely , but after being given our tea and cake etc ,we waited for over an hour and ask for our champagne , 15 minutes later it finally arrived we then went on to buy a bottle of wine which we kept asking for . This was a treat kids babysat and days off work , it was ruined by the having to wait and constantly looking for a waiter and asking .
