I have the Bovette, which is my favorite. It was excellent as always - but you need to eat it med-rare to truly appreciate the taste.
The parsnip soup was a bit bland, even with the hazelnut dressing.
    Chocolate Mousse perfect! Cheeses superb.

The selection of main dishes was a bit heavy on fish this week - guess because of lent. It was a bit disappointing.
Mondays they give half-off on bottles of wine. Wish I had known.

You MUST make a reservation. It is a small space.

Nice venue, disappointing service, we had a 9.30 table booked, but the experienced felt rushed and the staff seemed to have little interest. Nice place if you like wine, great choice. The steak arrived more rare than medium-rare as requested (think chef was rushing to get home) and it arrived where the steak was hidden under a huge dollop of horesradish! The chips were big and the meat tasted salty - not impressed, and won't be returning back.

Lovely service, very charming and relaxed. The soup was delicious, but fishcakes dry, as was the fish and cheesecake - it was difficult to tell whether it was cheesecake it was so dry. Cheese and oatcakes were wonderful, and we can imagine returning to sample the wine list alongside more cheese.

I loved the restaurant, the food and the service. The only thing I didn't like it was the temperature of the room, it was a very cold night outside, and in the restaurant unfortunately we were freezing.

Great food, slightly disorganised service, excellent wine and a lovely venue.

The 'gimmick' here is a (non-compulsory) recommended glass of wine for each food item. Good, interesting wines at very reasonable prices for the City. The menu is interesting and I was very happy with my choices - all delicious.
I gather that there are other branches of Vinoteca which have a more atmospheric interior. This one was comfortable enough but with quite bright lighting - fine for a meal with colleagues or friends, but you wouldn't go for a romantic evening. There did appear to be a private dining room in the basement though.
Location is very convenient - opposite Smithfield, about 2 minutes' walk from Farringdon station. Plenty of cabs passing.
Will definitely go back to this restaurant!

I'm a regular here - the food is always interesting and the wine list extensive and unusual. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. And the whole thing - particularly if you have the set menu - is excellent value. Why am I telling you this - I'll never get a table again!
