Veeraswamy Indian restaurant weaves an exotic spell of timeless glamour with a luxurious venue fit for the Maharaja and regional classic or contemporary Indian dishes. Opened in 1926, Veeraswamy London is the UK’s oldest surviving Indian restaurant and has served dignitaries and celebrities alike.
Established by the great-grandson of an English general and an Indian princess, many of the visiting Maharaja’s have donated their coloured turbans which now adorn the walls at Veeraswamy Regent Street. Listed in the National Geographic’s ‘10 of the Best of Everything’, the dramatic lighting, splendid chandeliers and silver painted ceiling are reminiscent of the Maharaja’s palaces from the 1920’s.
The Veeraswamy menu features classical dishes alongside contemporary offerings, with regional specialist chefs using their culinary skills to create a periodically changing menu. Many vegetarian dishes are available as well as an enticing selection of Indian desserts including Indian ice cream.
In the heart of London's West End with the 1st floor overlooking Regent Street, Veeraswamy London Indian restaurant is a 5-minute walk from Piccadilly Circus Tube Station.
Victory House, 99 Regent Street, London, W1B 4RS

Really lovely dinner here. Top notch Indian food, it's pricey which reflects the area more but our dishes were great. Had the lamb shank which was gorgeous and the restaurant was very down to earth given it's status. Would definitely go again.

Booked as a family treat as had read anout it previously
Menu was elaborate but eay to negotiate , staff friendly and approachable, not stuffy in terms of atmosphere
Ordered Kerala Prawn Curry, Chicken Shahbaad badaami and Hyderabadi Nimboo do piyaaza + Murgh tikka
The Hyderabadi Nimboo do piyaza and Murgh tikka were really good although for the Indian palate spices could have been a bit more,
Almond tart and saffron custard + Rose kulfi were very good desserts
In total family of 4 £177, reasonable considering the location and what we were subscribing to etc
Perhaps waiting staff could have asked or reccomended
The coca cola was quite flat : tasted like shopping market brand coke, Also the wine by the glass wasnt of a good taste
12.5% discretionary service charge added , tips extra ? ! Gets pricey
Ask the waiting staff to reccomend
Tasting menu looked good
I would definately come back again , it was a great experience overall !!

What a lovely restaurant. The staff were attentive, the decor beautiful, the location fantastic.
Unfortunately the food was not to the same standard. We had a non vegetarian shared starter and that was great. The main course was a selection for the three of us and it was disappointing. Apart from the rice being cold it was all ok, we have better at our local restaurant. Considering the choice on the menu is small, I would have expected the quality to be much better.
Having said that we had a lovely evening as a birthday celebration.

Read lots of reviews good and bad. Our general opinion of the food was disappointing. The starters were very good. However the main course arrived very late and ordered lamb biriyani and chicken makhani. Both dishes lacking in spices, aroma and very bland.
We did ask the waiter for his recommendation but he was unsure.
We have visited Michelin star restaurants and middle of the road eateries and have ate much better.
The staff member did ask us how we felt and told him the truth. His explanation was that the dishes are cooked to the standard and palate of the Europeans and Westerners!!
So really there's nothing authentic about their dishes at all.
The only thing about this experience was the Michelin price- astronomical! We didn't have wine either.
We would definitely not visit this place again. Sorry!

We tried the Taster Menu. It was good, the staff were excellent at describing the dishes. However in my opinion it is over priced
