Overlooking the rolling greenery of the golf course, Vardons Restaurant at Shaw Hill Hotel offers elegant British cuisine. As well as an opulent Regency-style dining room, a laidback bar serves an accomplished selection of world wines.

Offering time-honoured flavours with a distinct creative twist, the Vardons menu offers an adventurous selection of flavours. From delicate, palate-cleansing options to rich, gamey meats, Vardons Chorley prides itself on using locally sourced produce wherever possible. Presented with the utmost precision, dishes include twice-baked goats’ cheese soufflé, or succulent pheasant fillets with woodland mushroom risotto.

For something sweet, sample the indulgent flavours of chocolate and banana parfait, or lemon and raspberry panna cotta. Matched to your dishes by the knowledgeable maitre d’, special occasions can be marked with one of Vardons’ sublime vintage wines.

In an exclusive country club setting, Vardons Restaurant is housed in a lovingly restored Georgian building. Central Chorley is 9 minutes’ drive away.

Really not a good experience from start to finish. Map sent with confirmation of booking email sent us to the centre of Chorley when the actual restaurant is 9 miles away. Table not ready. Drinks while we were waiting they got wrong. Sat us next to a radiator (on a lovely sunny day) that was so hot I burned my arm - we felt the heat as we were approaching the table. The waiter turned the radiator off but 15 mins later we were so hot we asked to be moved. They moved us and brought our drinks and tea/coffee over to us and gave us the wrong drinks (we were all drinking coke) I told the waitress mine was nearly empty and she still gave me one that was nearly full. Brought the tea and coffee over. Starters arrived - soup in an expresso cup was very nice but only 4 teaspoonfuls. Sausage rolls tiny but excellent. Brought the sandwiches (teenie tiny) soggy bread like it had been left on a wet plate. Coronation chicken was mainly raisins very little chicken. Teenie tiny cakes - cheese scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam? Really? But the scones were nice. No milk and sugar - they brought us some but the milk jug spilled everywhere. Dishes and plates from starter not removed from the small table we were on and we had to put our cakes on the same plate with spilled soup. A hair found in sandwiches. Complained to manager and after a 20 min wait he gave me 20% off the meal and a bottle of Prosseco (we dont drink). We left more than 20% of the food. Was a special treat for my 3 daughters in law who have looked after me since the death of my husband in 2011 and my upcoming marriage to my fiance. This was my hen weekend. Disappointed isnt the word. We booked this off your website as it came highly recommended for afternoon tea. There was a man after me who was also waiting to complain. Lovely venue but HIGHLY overpriced. I can get a beautiful afternoon tea in Shrewsbury for £18 for TWO (without the tiny soup)

I booked afternoon tea for my mother birthday, the room it's self was beautiful, I had booked fireside and unfortunately I was informed on the day that this wasn't possible, but we was seated next to the window looking out at the golf grounds which was beautiful.
The staff that served us was friendly and very accommodating, we was never without a refill of coffee.
Would recommend to family and friends, the afternoon tea was beautifully displayed and very filling.

Christopher didn't enjoy his dinner of roast beef - it had a lot of fat and it was pink when he prefers old fashioned well cooked beef. I had pork steak which I enjoyed, the Black pudding mash was too much & unable to eat it up. We both enjoyed our tomato soup and the Eton Mess desserts also vegetables were good Lovely and comfortable restaurant with white clean cloths on tables. Waitress were very friendly and smart. We will come again but certainly wont be having riast beef!!

This is the first time we have had a bad experience, we went for Sunday lunch usually it's a very enjoyable experience, our comments were made to Sarah on leaving. We await any outcome

Although the menu looked promising the food didn't deliver on that promise. It appears that Vardons is going for a fine dining appeal without being able to make the grade, which is a shame as it does have potential to do so and if it could, the price would be more reflective, but at the moment it's pricing is a little steep. However, the food was very well cooked and the portions more than ample. The staff were very polite and the sommelier made a good wine recommendation.

I booked the table on line, I asked for a window table. On arrival we were treated in a polite yet friendly manor. Lovely setting, bright cheerful, inviting. We both decided to have the beef this week, last week we had pork. The food & service were excellent. Rey enjoyable. Highly recommend
