A homely open-plan pub in Cheshire, The Vale Royal Abbey Arms is housed within a 200-year-old listed building. This real-deal country pub boasts a quaint cobbled courtyard, and plenty of crackling open fires for staying toasty during winter.

Specialising in trusty, home-cooked British recipes, the Vale Royal Abbey menu is made up of time-honoured classics and inventive chef’s specials. The signature beef & ale pie is a creation from much-loved celebrity chef Tom Kerridge, while favourite world flavours include sizzling steak fajitas, or aubergine and roast beetroot curry. Gourmet sandwiches and jacket potatoes are served throughout the day, and guests can round things off with an indulgent crumble, cheesecake or sundae.

The drinks list at the Vale Royal Abbey Arms pub features carefully-chosen beers and international wines, and a lengthy list of soft drinks. Younger diners are not forgotten, with a varied menu for both lunch and dinner, and a mini roast served on Sundays.

Vale Royal Abbey in Northwich sits on the edge of Delamere Forest, and is a 4-minute drive from Delamere Train Station.

Overall we were a little disappointed as the Sunday lunch which was served up by the Chef was more fat than meat! Surely it would have been much better to have taken the beef and pork off the menu when it was starting to run out. Having said all that, the staff and Manager were very obliging and quickly rectified the situation. We were offered further dishes, free desserts and a partial refund which was most appreciated. Thank you

The reason I cannot give this full marks is that at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon the kitchen had run out of so many dishes. No soup, no beef roast dinner and no apple and blackberry crumble.

Very disappointed to find out at 3.15pm that we could only have pork for a Sunday roast. No one bothered to say why,it was just there is only pork left. Why advertise beef, chicken, lamb and have none available.

Ordered sausage and mash off the main menu very small portion for the expense - tried to complain and told to go online. The pub was also extremely cold which left my 75 year old mum in a very uncomfortable state.

A little disappointed that I could only have ribs with chicken or steak...not just as their own dish. Typically they'd run out of chicken too and I didn't have a big enough appetite for steak AND ribs! Ended up having a southern fried chicken burger which was really nice. Service was good, atmosphere was really nice and we all had a lovely meal. Very impressed we could book a table for 8 people for Christmas Eve lunch when only trying the night before! Desserts were amazing as always; my highlight being the baked Alaska. Would definitely go there again.

The meals were really good, the only disappointment was we dined at 7 and there were already things sold out and off the menu
