A traditional British guesthouse in the Devonshire countryside, Tor Royal is a homely, Grade II-listed setting for classic British tea. Renowned for its horse stables, it sits in a dramatic and unspoilt region of Dartmoor, in which War Horse was filmed.
Afternoon tea at Tor Royal delights with dainty sandwiches and warm homemade scones, which enjoy the company of fresh strawberries, crumbly butter shortbread and fondant-lathered cakes. A freshly-brewed pot of tea or coffee sits on the side to complete the traditional offering.
Tor Royal in Dartmoor makes use of the freshest produce available locally for its afternoon tea selections. Dating back to 1785, the building retains many of its original Georgian features, having been sensitively refurnished for modern day use, and boasts a quaint and peaceful stone chipping courtyard.
Perfectly located for treks across the moors, Tor Royal sits in the middle of Dartmoor National Park, half an hour’s drive from Plymouth. Please note, you will be contacted to pay a deposit for your Afternoon tea when you have booked.

Very sorry, but this time was not the best experience to us. Everything is going down here.

My daughters and I visited Tor Royal for a Mother's Day afternoon tea treat. The booking process online was very easy. On our arrival we had a warm welcome from the staff and were promptly shown to our table. The atmosphere was calm and quiet as customers enjoyed the lovely afternoon tea. A selection of small but delicious sandwiches were served on a doily covered glass cake stand, and a range of lovely small cakes were also beautufully presented and irresistible. Tea was served in bone china cups placed upon a crisp white linen table cloth. All in all a lovely experience, we did not feel rushed,it did not feel commercial and we will return. We did not know you were there Tor Royal but now we do.......
Perhaps more advertising locally would be useful as I found you online and in 30 years of living locally, we did not know you had this lovely facility.
