Tucked away in one of London’s most exclusive areas, Tokyo Sukiyaki Tei in Chelsea blends authentic, homely Japanese cooking with more contemporary and gourmet touches. The eclectic menu is reflected in the quirky and colourful décor.

The Tokyo Sukiyaki Tei menu offers Japanese classics like squid tempura with chilli ponzu, sushi roll with lobster, salmon avocado and asparagus, and teriyaki beef and tofu stew. Joining the classics are inventive dishes like grilled foie gras with truffle fried rice, and fried octopus with chilli. Sukiyaki itself is a dish particular to Japan, where thinly sliced meat is prepared by cooking and stewing it in a shallow cast-iron pot at your table.

The Tokyo Sukiyaki Tei restaurant is also home to exotic desserts including apple ginger ice cream and green tea chesecake. A huge range of sakes as well as Japanese beers and world wines are also on offer.

Tokyo Sukiyaki Tei is a 6-minute walk from South Kensington Tube Station.

Absolutely amazing birthday meal. The restaurant is in a lovely location which made it all feel fancy before we even arrived. On arrival, our booking was found and we were taken to our seats. The restaurant was not that busy so we may not have needed to book. The one and only slight problem we had the whole night was that we had to mention about the summer sukiyaki festival offer we had booked as they didn't initially mention it to us. But once mentioned it was all fine. Very attentive service the whole night long. The starters were lovely and of a good size. We also ordered some wagyu gyoza which were delightful and meant we got to try some wagyu. The sukiyaki was beautiful. A good amount of meat and veggies each. However, do bare in mind that the dipping egg does not come included in the price you need to add it on. A lady started off our sukiyaki for us and we were asked if we would want her to stay there the whole time to cook it all for us or if we were okay by ourselves. I think it is fantastic value for the amount of time and care they give you. Even though we chose to cook it by ourselves you could see that they were keeping an eye on it to see if temperature was okay. Any time you finished a plate of something they promptly took it away. Finally, as I had mentioned it was my boyfriends birthday in the booking form they came at the end of the meal with a special sparkling drink / cocktail on the house to celebrate his birthday. Fantastic service the whole night and beautiful food. I would highly recommend this restaurant for special nights out.
