After booking for four online I wanted to add an extra person. The website asks you to phone which I did late Saturday night. I was told the system was closed (10.45) and that I would have to phone back in the morning. Just before 11am I did. The woman that took my call seemed rushed but agreed to the increase. We arrived on time only to be told that the system says 4 and not 5. I explained. No apology - just that we would have to wait by the bar. No seats available and I had my 81 year old Mum with me. 10-15 mins later we were shown to our table. Food was ok and the lady who served us was lovely. First impressions not ok!

First visit since it changed from the Pen Inn, which we used to dine at frequently, to the Toby Carvery. I did try to book when it first changed and was told that they didn't take bookings but to just turn up. I couldn't risk turning up with a party of 20 so booked elsewhere. The reason for yesterday's visit was for me and my husband to try it out because you do now take bookings and once again I am arranging a lunch for 20 people.
It was pouring with rain and we had to walk all the way round to the front of the building form the car park whereas at the old Pen Inn we could enter via the car park through the conservatory.
I decided not to book for our lunch because your menu is very limited. At lunch time not all of us want to eat a carvery or roast meat sandwich as we prefer lighter bites. I guess it is what it is ..... a Toby CARVERY so not your fault We ate the carvery and it was okay except I had roast beef and it was too tough to chew..
There was no SPICY tomato juice available.
There was no satisfaction check.
