We received a warm welcome & we admired the interior style & furnishings. The student & staff
were friendly & attentive (but not overly so, which was good). This was our first visit, and we'd like to return possibly with friends to sample afternoon tea and dinner.
We were told that students cooked that day, and it's well done to them. The fish was very fresh and well cooked. Presentation good, but I should have preferred the pork loin to be sliced, not in a thick steak-like piece. The vegetarian option was good too. The starters were lovely. One dessert was taken which had the wow factor.
The rest of us enjoyed excellent cafetières of coffee.

The restaurant here is new, only opened a few months, but is the follow on to the restaurant that the college had in the main building. This is a much nice room than before with just the right amount of space between tables etc so that it feels spacious but not empty. We were a party of six and had ordered just after a larger party so we expected to have a bit of a wait. Starters were excellent, we had caesar salad, salmon fishcakes and beef carpaccio - all lovely. For mains we all chose the Kentish beef which arrived cooked exactly as requested (5 medium rare and 1 rare) and was a good sized piece of meat. This was served with a mushroom sauce, wild mushrooms, potato rosti and jus. Empty plates all round. How did we squeeze in dessert? We tried shuffle, chocolate mousse, cider cake and the cheese board - all lovely. Service was very friendly. There had been a bit of a delay with drinks due to malfunction of one of the tills but otherwise very efficient. We would definitely come again.

Food was very good. The service was not consistent, but we understand this is a training restaurant . The cost of lunch is reasonable with a good quality menu. The bar was serviced by a young man who was not familiar with the wine list or costings. He could not tell the difference between a white wine and a blush. We could not purchase a bottle of wine as the duty manager was unavailable and the bar staff did not have access to bottles of wine?
Some of the serving staff were not familiar with the lunch menu and need more training on service to the customer, to gain confidence; how to put the plates down etc...

Visited the restaurant when it first opened, the staff are very helpful & polite food good but very disappointed that the lunch time menu had not changed in two months and with only three choices for a starter mains & dessert, will not be rushing back.(used the old college restaurant regularly menus always changed was hoping for the same )

The meal at the Yarrow was really good. The cauliflower soup was exceptional. Everything was very tasty and nicely presented and overall it represented exceptional value. The staff are really firndly and helpful. Will definitely eat there again.

Excellent food. My husband had smoked haddock fish cake followed by pork, and I had tomato and goats cheese followed by cod with vegetables, beautifully cooked. We had puds and pudding wine, almond and apricot, I think, soufflé with cinnamon ice cream, and creek brûlée with autumn fruits and black currant sorbet, quite delicious. Very good service and extremely attractive decor. We were celebrating my birthday and I was not disappointed. I do hope the hotel and restaurant do really well, and that it will be well supported, it deserves it.
