Offering views over the snaking River Trent, farmhouse-style pub The Wolseley Arms serves time-honoured British cuisine from a trusty menu. A former coaching inn based in Staffordshire, the pub features exposed brickwork, chunky oak beams and tartan-clad furnishing, while a pretty gravel courtyard caters for al fresco dining come the summer.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Wolseley Arms menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while the ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The picturesque Cannock Chase is a 14-minute drive from The Wolseley Arms in Stafford, with Shugborough Hall just a 6-minute drive away.

First, we were told that because I booked online (7 days in advance) they shouldn’t have accepted the booking, got no room but later did find a table for 2. Three choices I made from the menu weren’t available, sold out only 19:30. Drinks were left at the bar so long all the ice had melted, had to be redone. Dishes were not cleared away between courses. Long wait in-between courses. We were asked if we had ordered deserts, I said that we haven’t even seen the menu yet. On the bill, we were actually charged for 8 deserts, even though my wife and I were on a table for two, also had a voucher for a free dessert, made worse No apology at all. The whole room was exceptionally hot, most uncomfortably hot!
We have been here many, many times before, never encountered such poor service before. Real shame, because it was our 35-wedding anniversary, overall very disappointed. Not sure if want to return again in the future?

We had a lovely evening. Although the place was heaving on the last Saturday in the month, we were served courteously by two lovely ladies who made my transgender partner feel welcome and comfortable. And 25% off didn't go amiss either!

Good service, good food but the pies could have had a little more filing I them. I had steak and a colleague had chicken but it was impressive only because of the pie crust.
