We expected an "upmarket dining experience". It was more like jumped up pub food.
There were only six choices on the menu for mains - two of them were fish and chips and burger and chips.
My wife had fish and chips: served on a wooden board; peas in a separate pot and chips in a separate pot. voila! Nouveau cuisine. £14!!
I ordered burger and chips. It was burger and chips. It was £13!!! I ordered extra cheese to go with it(£1). I had to squint to find it.
The waiting staff seemed a little confused. I asked for ketchup and I was brought salt and pepper. Two different waiters asked me if I wanted wine and neither pointed me in the direction of the wines they had on offer or allowed me the time to choose.
Having said all of that the souffle was an absolute masterpiece. Delicious and for £7 was acceptable.
Overall I just felt this was pub food pretending to be something it was not and expecting people to pay silly prices.
The wine was good but they did not present it in such a way as to make it a real attraction. Pity.

Gone is the set lunch menu - it's all a la carte now. The food is still good. I enjoyed the smoked haddock fillet on a bed of bubble and squeak topped with a poached egg (main course), presented in the modern manner. It looked a small meal but was quite sufficient for lunch.

Fantastic venue and fabulous food and drink. Our second time of visiting in a year and it was better than ever, creative menu finest quality ingredients cooked to perfection and the drinks were of good quality although a shame no local wine on offer alongside the local beer.Lovely spotlessly clean pub restaurant and outside area in a charming village. One of our favourite places now.

On arrival although busy we were greeted warmly and offered drinks although seating was limited in the bar area. The bar and restaurant area were constantly busy all evening but overall the food was excellent. I had the stone bass as a main and it was really nice and one of our friends had the pork which he said was the best food he had tasted for a long time.
The only criticism was that at times you felt a little rushed which did get better as the evening went on after we stated we needed a break. Definitely go back though
