Lovely pub, lovely atmosphere and lovely staff. And the food was very good. Defiantly returning.

A former dairy farm, The Willy Wicket serves quintessentially British food from an extensive menu, and enjoys a grassy beer garden framed by the pub’s red-brick exterior. Based in Bristol, the dining room features roaring open fires, black oak beam ceilings and squashy leather sofas.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Willy Wicket menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies designed by celebrity chef James Martin offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while the ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

Surrounded by rolling countryside, The Willy Wicket in Downend boasts many rambling walks and idyllic beauty spots, while The Kendleshire Golf Club is just a 4-minute drive away.

We arrived a little bit too early for our table booking, so had a drink in the bar area. The Willy Wicket has a very good range of beverages from real ales to a varied selection of spirits; the range of gins was excellent. We were seated at our table, which was near a nice roaring real log fire, however I wouldn't have wanted to be sat any closer to it as the heat from it was quite intense. The menu was vast, almost too much choice really. I decided on a curry from the special menu and my partner had the wagyu beef burger. Both meals were quite delicious and very good sized portions for the price. I had intended on following it with a dessert, but was so full that I couldn't have managed one if i'd have wanted to. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the general atmosphere of the pub was welcoming. We will be booking again for my birthday in a few weeks, as I feel very confident that they can cope with a larger table of diners there.

We enjoyed our starter (pate duo)and main courses (I had lamb duo, rest of family had hunters chicken). Bit disappointed with the desserts - my daughters both had creme brûlée but there was too much crunchy topping and not enough custard. 20% discount on total bill was very good. Waitress was very helpful.

The Bookable comment of a quiet table and candle was noted and reserved nicely. The lady who served us was polite, sociable though professional and very helpful. The food was very nice indeed of great quality, hot and tasty and the dessert moreish and luxurious. A great ambience and pleasant evening out. Thank you.

We had a very nice meal but certain items you had run out of and instead of asking us if we would prefer something else another item was substituted, luckily this was not a problem.

The pub has a great atmosphere and a different "feel" in parts of the pub - all good! Our food was lovely and nicely presented. Our waitress was absolutely great too. My only wish is that they'd bring back the excellent onion relish!!!
