Having been before a few times and enjoyed it. This time was rather disappointing, it definitely wasn't worth the £73.00 you charged for lunch. The two fillet steak main meal for £25.00 was ridiculous the amount of meat we got was very disappointing. The so called triple cooked chips were not much better than McDonald's.

The combination of the setting and interior of the restaurant along with the excellent service provided a very good first impression. The aroma from the open fire in the bar area drifted through to the restaurant and added to a very nice and relaxed cosy ambience.

I opted for a starter and chose the Scotch egg with ham and haggis. The taste was very good and the home made brown sauce accompaniment lifted the dish.

The two main courses arrived presented on wooden board platters. My wife selected the 10oz Smoked Wild Boar Loin on the bone with the Sticky Red Cabbage and I chose the 10oz Rib Eye with Smoky creamed kale.

The Rib Eye steak was cooked well and tender with very little waste and the smoky creamed kale was a good companion for the steak, albeit it seemed the Rib Eye steak had shrunk in cooking!

In hindsight, we should have raised a concern with the Wild Boar Loin. Half the weight of the meal must have been on the bone as we estimated that there was nearer 4oz of meat and most of the meat was on the tough side. This made the meal somewhat disappointing, particularly given the £26 price tag.

The desserts were very tempting with a varied choice and finished off the meal on a good note. The venue, service and ambience were 5*, for me some improvement needed on the main course. Would we return – possibly.

On a whole the meal staff and interior were great lovely food I know some people comment on the price but at the end of the day you can't buy a Mercedes for the price of a skoda if you want cheap rubbish go elsewhere. I'd say the 1 and only thing that let the place down was the exterior when we pullet up we both said oh no I hope it's better than it looks!! And luckily we weren't disappointed

Our first time trying this restaurant and will definitely be returning. Fantastic food, friendly staff and a lovely dated/old fashioned decor. We were running late due to getting slightly lost but this was made no issue by the staff when we arrived. Extensive menu with plenty of options for all tastes. Service was quick and food hot upon arrival. Some may find it a tad on the pricey side, which it is but personally I don't mind as long as you get good quality food/service and leave with a 'food baby'! Only slight downer on the night was the loud mouth behind us letting us and everyone else know he was Eton educated etc. Asshole. Hopefully we avoid such people next time :-)
