Opted for the Sunday Roast, which was very good but not the best I've had. However, the location and service was very good so overall it was a good meal.

Named Best Family Friendly Pub Chester & Cheshire’s Food & Drink Awards 2014, The White Horse is a charming gastro pub found in the grounds of the racecourse. Crackling log fires are a staple in winter, and the airy open conservatory offers views across the racecourse and city walls.

The diverse White Horse menu spans from nibbles, sandwiches and light bites, to hearty pub classics and pizzas from the wood burning charcoal grill. Children can design and decorate their own pizzas at their table, and enjoy the pirate ship playground in warmer weather.

Guests can enjoy an outdoor bar and barbecue area at The White Horse in Chester, perfect for summer evenings and weekends. At the bar, choose from with traditional beers, familiar wines and quirky minerals.

Found on the fringes of the historic city, The White Horse restaurant is a 9-minute drive from Chester Train Station.

We found the restaurant very welcoming, staff were lovely.
Unfortunately our meal was disappointing, steak was more like died out beef joint, my wifes chicken was dry, fondant potatoes were on menu but they were not fondant potatoes.
Staff immediately came to the table to enquire if there were probelms when i put my knife and fork down, they dealt with the situation admirably, offering an alternative or refund. Perhaps we were unlucky as the restaurant had been recommended to us.

We have used the White Horse several times as a family friendly venue. The Sunday lunch was I think real quality. It was way above my expectations and would compete with more expensive venues in Chester. So well done Chef. Very friendly engaging staff. The

Excellent food and very polite and attentive service from our waitress. Surroundings and overall atmosphere warm and welcoming. Had to ask for a change from the first table allocated as it was directly beside the entrance to the toilets on a busy party night!! Not the best first impression. Otherwise all excellent!!

We enjoyed everything about our visit yesterday, from the very friendly staff who made us feel extremely welcome to the most inviting restaurant. The young barman could not do enough for us and started by seating us by a wonderful log fire, bringing drinks and the menu to choose from. He then sorted us a table, again by the log fire and we enjoyed our delicious meals of lasagne, for my husband and sirloin steak for myself. We were going to return for pud and coffee after shopping but got carried away and ran out of time. Certainly will eat in The White Horse next time we are in Chester. Highly recommended!

Nice restaurant shame that sloppy service let it down.

Disappointing. Service poor, place almost empty, dirty menu cards, food OK but nothing special.

Very poor, table not ready when we arrived, plus in a very poor position. Food order was taken wrongly only three meals arrived instead of four we then had to wait fifteen minutes for the other meal which meant some of us were eating when others were not. So overall not very impressed and would go not go back.

When we arrived there was nobody available front of house to greet you, this is often the case, so you are left standing around at the entrance waiting to catch one of the waiting staffs eye. We sat down shortly after 6pm but didn’t get a drink until nearly 6.30pm when we flagged someone down to take both food and drink orders; this is unacceptable. The service levels at the White Horse remain consistently poor, this has been the position for a long time and points to significant failures in the management. There was one waitress who seemed to be doing most of the work herself, while the manageress (?) did the bar and a younger waitress just floated about with no sense of direction or purpose. There does not appear to be anyone in charge and to coordinate the organisation of the staff. Service is provided by whoever you can catch the eye of whilst they pass your table. There are errors made, items forgotten, my second drink was ordered when my food arrived, I would have liked to enjoy this with my main meal, predictably it never arrived until I had finished my main course. The venison steak arrived in two pieces; both were cooked far too much (I hadn’t been asked how I’d like the steak part cooked). They should have been much rarer, as one of the pieces was dry and tough. The sauce/gravy the steaks came with lent nothing, as it tasted of nothing! The steak needs a nice red-wine sauce or similar to lift them. The celeriac puree suffered from the same fate of blandness, possibly needing more seasoning or perhaps more celeriac! The cottage pie was nice: it was the only thing with any hint of flavour. The ‘stem broccoli’ was tiny. I was expecting the big long-stemmed version you can by yourself and got two miniature stalks. The sirloin was acceptable but think and only lukewarm; had we not waited so long it would have been sent back. The peppercorn sauce was very thin, the chips were fine, the mushroom and tomato were both wilted, and the meal had clearly been
