A rustic retreat amidst the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, The Wensleydale Heifer Leyburn serves seasonal British food that has earned it a place in the Good Food Guide. Serving a dedicated lobster menu, and winner of AA Seafood Pub of the Year, the restaurant specialises in using carefully sourced British produce to create simple but exquisitely presented dishes.
Prepared by a team of chefs who have worked in several different countries, the weekly changing menu is diverse, and is led by supreme seafood from the British Isles. From the grill, try the signature malt whisky and brown sugar marinated beef fillet, celeriac and truffle purée, and a choice of sauces including aged Roquefort and muscat cream. The seafood dishes are every bit as exciting, and include banana leaf-baked Scottish salmon, with crab and Thai peanut curry sauce. The Heifer’s Canadian lobster salad is enough to satisfy the hungriest of diners, featuring lobster, scallops, tiger prawns, crispy belly pork, smoked bacon, and a sweet maple syrup dressing. As well as a vegetarian menu, a range of dishes have been designed for gluten-free diners, including the Heifer’s famous fish and chips.
As well as a children’s menu, vegetarian and vegan menu, and a hearty Sunday lunch, The Wensleydale Heifer restaurant boasts a lengthy list of world wines and creative cocktails. The snug and bar offer the opportunity to enjoy a hand-picked whisky or local ale from the comfort of a cosy fireside chair, whilst the restaurant garden is open for al fresco dining in warmer weather.
Surrounded by stunning scenery, The Wensleydale Heifer in Yorkshire sits between the idyllic towns of Leyburn and Hawes.

Excellent food and service.
Unfortunately we were only able to book a table for the bar which was cold, the table was unstable and wobbled and the room lacked ambience.
Would do back if I could dine in the restaurant.

Lovely restaurant, superb food and service. It was my husband's birthday special touches - card, balloon and a gift.
Cannot wait to return - a truly memorable evening

Absolutely fantastic. The service was outstanding, the food was unbelievably good and I've never tasted a steak with a crust so delicious! When a large party came in just before our sweet course, one of our servers offered to move us into the lounge area where it was notably quieter.
Also, on learning our outing was a belated birthday treat for me, she promptly disappeared into the back and returned with a birthday card, foil balloon, and a plush toy cow. I thought that was a lovely touch.
I now have a new favourite restaurant. A little more expensive than I can afford too regularly, but you can see the respect the Chef has for his ingredients which makes the cost worth it. The Wensleydale Heifer truly deserves its excellent reputation!

Visited on the 21st September and it was excellent from start to finish. A little soft toy (cow!) was waiting on our table for our 2yr old daughter, which we thought was a really nice touch. We went for lunch and the food, setting and service was excellent. The staff really went out of their way to make us enjoy our visit and particular mention goes to the way they interacted with our daughter. We were there for almost 2hrs and not one complaint or tantrum from Millie (which is always nice!). Can highly recommend the fish soup, gammon joint and Hale with risotto. Kids meals are very nice too. This was our 1st visit, but won't be our last. Thank you

We've eaten here a number of times, on our (usually) annual visits to the Dales, and have always enjoyed it as a highlight of the holiday. This time was no exception. The food is sublime, and the service is always friendly and efficient.
I have just one comment which I hope will be accepted as constructive criticism. I ordered the lobster and prawn baguette, which was delicious. But the hardness and crustiness of the baguette itself made it difficult to eat: the filling kept falling out. In my personal opinion, this lovely filling would be better served on a softer roll - perhaps something like the consistency of the white rolls which were served before the meal.
