Everything was fine just had to ask for beer mats.

With its rustic stone walls, exposed wooden beams and low ceilings, Waterloo Cross is a cosy little escape from the world outside. This charming pub serves up all kinds of gourmet pub grub, while the bar features a range of cask ales from Marston's Brewery.

All kinds of traditional pub favourites feature on the Waterloo Cross menu, with a number of gourmet tweaks thrown in. From the grill, tender steaks sit alongside sticky BBQ baby back ribs, and a range of burgers, including one with buttermilk chicken. Rotisserie chicken is a real crowd pleaser here, and there are exotic curries served with sides like vegetable samosas. Dedicated children's menus help make this a versatile pub for the whole family.

For dessert at Waterloo Cross in Devon, diners are treated to classics like raspberry and rhubarb sponge, and thoroughly indulgent treats like caramelised biscuit cheesecake. International beers are on tap, and there are also carefully selected wines and bubbles too.

With a thoroughly historic feel inside, and a snug, relaxed ambience, Waterloo Cross also offers spacious guest rooms upstairs. Tiverton Parkway Rail Station is only 5 minutes' drive away.

We decided to go as it was local and they did food all day suitable for an early tea. To our surprise it was very quite with 4 members of front of house tea on we were expecting great service, however we waited 15 minutes to order drinks. By which time we'd read the menu and we're ready to order our food. Others were given drinks well before is and arrived after us.
The food arrived within 25 mins of our booking time and when asking for gravy for our daughter we got a somewhat surprised look from the waitress ( not every child needs kerchup). The mains took a while to turn up after we'd finished our starters, waiting staff walked past our table at least 5 times before clearing. Not one of the members of staff noticed my husbands empty glass we had to prompt a another drink.
Considering it was so quite the service was very poor, both of the young waitresses looked like they'd rather be somewhere else.
Such a shame it could have been so much better with a bit of motivation from the manager to look out for the little things that lead to up selling and good customer service.
