A traditional country pub serving modern British cuisine, The Walpole Arms dates back to the 18th century and sits in picturesque Norfolk countryside. The pub is the only one in Norfolk to have won the coveted Michelin Bib Gourmand Prize for 10 years in a row.

The chefs have created a mouth-watering menu prepared using seasonal local produce. Favourites include chargrilled 21-day aged sirloin steak with mushrooms, oven-dried tomatoes, salad & triple-cooked chips, roast red pepper & mozzarella risotto ball with slow cooked tomato sauce, artichoke & shaved pecorino salad, and pan-fried guinea fowl breast & confit leg with a potato terrine, caramelised chicory & chorizo.

Complementing the Walpole Arms menu are an extensive wine list & a tempting dessert menu. The pub serves a traditional roast every Sunday, and quiz nights are held on Wednesdays.

The traditional bar area features Norfolk red brick, oak beams and a wood burner to keep you warm in those cold winter months. With a cosy seating area, the Garden Room opens out onto the vine-covered terrace, creating the perfect setting for al fresco dining.

The Walpole Arms in Norfolk is a 10-minute drive from Aylsham Rail Station.

Warm cosy place with food that had been prepared fresh and cooked to a high standard.
The veggie options were poor, and could do with improving.

Had a really nice evening at the Walpole. We always come here when we feel we need a bit of a treat. The food is delicious, and the ambiance incomparable. We prefer to sit in the bar - but have friends who prefer the restaurant. The chef is always happy to adapt - if you don't want ice-cream with your dessert, you can have cream; if you don't want skinny fries, you can have chunky etc. My only disappointment was that the biscuit with my dessert was very heavy on cinnamon - which I don't like and it wasn't mentioned on the menu. Still - think of the calories I saved by not eating it!
The waiting staff are all charming, friendly, and helpful, and always offer you water in addition to drinks. What's not to like?

Very disappointing. Service not up to usual standard. There were four of us and we had to wait a long time for our meal, while others who came after were served. Batter on fish was not cooked on inside, inedible. I have been lucky in the past so may give them one more try. Cordial drinks were watered down too much.

We enjoyed our return visit to the Walpole Arms - a friendly welcome, warm pleasant bar/dining area and excellent food - especially the roast duck breast.

We had not visited the Walpole Arms for a few years despite only living about 40 minutes away and wonder why on earth we have left it so long to return. It was the perfect choice for lunch for my husband's 60th birthday. We ate in the bar area with its woodburner. The choice on the menu was excellent - we thoroughly enjoyed all we ate. Well behaved dogs are also allowed in the bar so our black labrador sat on her lead by our table and was rather overwhelmed at being made so welcome.
