The welcome was good, the decor stylish, the service friendly and the food delicious. I would particularly recommend the Chocolate Fondant dessert.

From the multi-Michelin-starred Michael Caines, The Townhouse Oswestry is a stunning Georgian property showcasing eclectic, artistic cuisine with bold European flavours, as well as afternoon teas. The strikingly stylish bar serves up signature cocktails, and the garden offers tranquil al fresco dining.

Colourful and inventive recipes are served throughout the day on The Townhouse menu. To start, there is smoked ham hock and foie gras terrine with fried duck egg, vegetable terrine and leek and pineapple panna cotta, with mains offering exciting combinations like pan-fried rock bass with saffron onions, lobster and squid bolognaise, gnocchi and pepper essence. Sunday lunch at The Townhouse restaurant takes hearty favourites like slow-roasted pork belly, roast rump of beef or the vegetarian risotto, and pairs them with eclectic starters like beetroot-cured salmon with honey and soya vinaigrette and salsa verde.

Desserts take classic foundations and expand on them, such as the rhubarb and custard parfait with macarons, crisp and foam. The wine list boasts a huge selection of vintages from around the world, including Dom Perignon champagne. Afternoon tea at The Townhouse is completely bespoke, and includes a range of teas, sandwiches and sweet treats.

With striking blends of traditional and contemporary décor and amazing attention to detail throughout the menus, The Townhouse in Oswestry is 10 minutes' drive from Gobowen Rail Station.

We had drinks in the bar first. The decor is lovely as are the temperance cocktails. Good choice on the menu. Something for everyone. The portions are quite large so we were glad we shared a starter. My chicken was lovely and full of flavour. We struggled to fit in a sweet but were glad we did as the rum baba was delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was friendly and attentive.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal at the Townhouse. The service was excellent, friendly and helpful (I had a few questions about the menu) and what our waiter did not know he made the effort to find out from the kitchen. The food was excellent and for the quality we thought reasonably priced. I would highly recommend it and would definitely go there again.

Hit and miss. What was good was very good indeed; what wasn't was surprising.

The carrot and red pepper soup was great; the vegetarian risotto tasty, but overly salty ("I'll tell the chef, but we're changing our menu next week"); the rack of lamb and sea bass wonderful, albeit both accompanied by the exact same vegetables - a red pepper sauce plus a slightly spicy ratatouille. One dessert was good, the other bad (the pastry on the berry strudel was charred on the outside and uncooked on the inside - "we only have one oven" was the excuse offered). Service was positive and timely, although seemed to downplay our complaints. "Was everything OK?" is not a good question to ask at the end of the meal after we'd already pointed out that it wasn't! Nothing was comped, despite the feedback.

£76, including the 10% "discretionary" service charge, for 3 of us on a Saturday: 2 "set meals", 1 main course, 2 glasses of wine.

I did not enjoy this experience at all. The food was of poor quality. Very overpriced. Poor inexperienced staff.

Because this is a Michael Caines resturant I think we had our expectations too high, service was very slow we waite aprox 10 mins to be offered a drink - lunch was nice food was nice but I had part of the scewer still in my food.
Money way taken off the bill and the bill was a reasonable price anyway. Me and my husband wish we hadnt of known who's resturant it was as we felt let down with the experience.
Still a lovely place and food.
