Excellent lunch at The Terrace on Saturday. The food, service and rooftop setting were all first rate. Would particular recommend two slightly unusual-sounding dishes: ox cheek crumpet and hake with cauliflower and raisins.

Food good; service good, but very noisy party drinking at the bar spoiled the evening.

To arrive at the dining area felt like having to run a gauntlet of bouncers. The two gentlemen on the main door were polite and welcoming, however the single gentleman halfway up the stairs did make us feel somewhat intimidated. We were asked if we were dining (fair enough) and then asked if we had made a reservation (which we had already been asked at the bottom of the stairs). I presume you don't encourage walk ins? He didn't really say much at that point, so we then had to assume we go single file through the rope and up the stairs. Whilst I appreciate that you don't want all and sundry disturbing the dining area, this doesn't make a particularly welcoming experience at point of entry, in my opinion.

We were greeted at the restaurant level in a timely and friendly manner, our coats were taken and we were introduced to our waiter, whom I believe was called Gerard. Gerard was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we had excellent service from both him and the wine waiter.

We very much enjoyed our meal and thought the atmosphere and food was excellent. However, when mentioning at the end of the meal to Gerard that it was my birthday (in random conversation), he pointed out that we could have let the restaurant know in advance. My wife, Charlotte Carpenter, when booking the restaurant through your booking system DID mention under 'special requirements' that it was my birthday. She also mentioned that it was my birthday when the restaurant called her on Saturday afternoon to reconfirm the booking - at which point they said they would do a birthday plate for us. Evidently the waiter had not been informed of this.

Great night, good food and service. Nice vibe. Please inform customers if you will be seating them at a high table as one of our party was disabled and it was a bit tricky for her.

Roast prawns starter very delicious. Messy eating, but finger bowls were provided and they have proper serviettes. Plaice main was very good too. My friend and I really enjoyed the food. I have been to this restaurant several times for lunch. Consistently good and love the setting. Recommend !

The Sunday roast was delicious, especially the beef which was very tender. 7 of us booked in for lunch, 3 children and 4 adults. The children were made to feel very welcome and were even given etch a sketch pads to play on which was a nice touch. The portion sizes were perfect and everything was full of flavour. The homemade treacle tart was pretty special too. It was a lovely sunny day which made the rooftop restaurant a perfect place to spend a Sunday lunchtime. I would highly recommend it.
