Lovely food, service and very cosy, perfect for autumn winter. We will be back. Love the fire too.

A distinctively ancient building, The Tawny Owl near Darlington offers fantastic country views while enjoying the traditional British pub cuisine. Featuring a pretty al fresco dining area and a cosy hearth for winter, the country pub has classic brickwork and eye-catching red slate on the outside. With Chesterfield armchairs, charming candles and traditional ornaments, The Tawny Owl has an abundance of rustic character.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Tawny Owl menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Tawny Owl ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

In the tranquil countryside, and just north of the River Tees, The Tawny Owl is just 10 minutes’ drive from Darlington.

Tawny Owl provides a lovely dining experience both in terms of the environment - a lively rustic feel, a good menu with a great selection to suit a lot of palettes including smaller portions and some fabulous puds. It provides great value for money £86 for 2 courses five people and drinks. The service was friendly and personable - we didn't feel rushed at all ( this was a lunch serving ).

A lovely place and have also had Sunday Lunch here before when visiting the north and that's equally great.

Great pub, great food, great service, the only minor detail is that as a couple looking for a quiet Sunday diner we were sandwiched between two large tables with small children on, we love children, we have four grandchildren etc but the noise, banging spoons on China plates, the on off on off chairs, it would be nice if the pub could have a family , children area and a sperate adult ares? Just a thought, hence my one star for ambience

Excellent meal. ,Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The duo of lamb was particularly good and the chips were well cooked and not greasy.Overall well priced, good portions and well cooked.

lovely place but not much left on the menu. We dined at 8.30pm to be told no roasts available or pizzas. Got the impression that they were looking to close and felt a little uncomfortable. I think overall if you went during the day it would be lovely but quite disappointed for our first visit. Overall food was okay, lovely place but felt the staff were ready for home.
