Converted from 3 1700s miners' cottages, The Swan in Rowberrow is a wonderfully historic countryside pub. Overlooking Beacon Batch, it makes for a perfect pitstop for walkers with its open fires and dog-friendly facilities.

The Swan menu is full of gourmet British pub dishes made with regional ingredients. There is slow cooked belly of Somerset pork with Toulouse cassoulet and buttered kale, as well as diver-caught scallops with beetroot risotto, rocket salad and parmesan crisps. There are sandwiches served during the day, and a popular traditional ploughman's with crusty granary bread.

Ales at The Swan Rowberrow include brews from the local Butcombe Brewery, and on Sundays there is a choice of roasts served with all the trimmings.

Still sporting its original stone wall and exposed beam finishes, The Swan Somerset is an 18-minute drive from Worle Rail Station.

We went to The Swan for a Father's Day meal. All four of us ordered a plated Sunday dinner meal. Two pork, one chicken and one beef. The presentation was very nice but the quantities were surprisingly small. The meal given to me consisted of two small pieces of chicken, 3 small potatoes, a long parsnip that cut in half and a carrot the same size, a dry Yorkshire pudding and a small portion of cabbage. When the waitress brought us two small leek portions topped with crumble (for the four of us to share) and two small gravy jugs I asked if there was more veg and the waitress said that was it. I was shocked. I would have said more but our boys were home from living abroad and it was Father's Day so I just let it go. Unless The Swan offers us some free meals we will not be going back.

3 of us had the battered fish which was good, however the accompanying chips were soft and greasy. There was barely a spoonful of mushy peas.
The best dish was the cheese board, which was not on the menu but prepared for us at our request.
Sorry can't recommend the Swan on this occasion.

Arrived at this pub to find the sable set and reserved with my name on it, my request for a high chair was in place.
The food was lovely and the service was quick.
Unfortunately when going to the bar to pay for out lunch the girl behind the bar decided to completely ignore me and continued serving new customers.
I think this was extremely rude, I know that it was busy and this is why I went to the bar to pay.
This is unfortunate as I have been to this pub in many occasions and this is the first time I had a bad experience.

One of the best meals I've ever had. Caramelised onion tart with Brie and cranberry was an exquisite mix of tastes, and the main of belly of pork was superb. Servers very attentive.

Lovely cosy pub. Food was excellent. Fish & Chips and the Chicken, Leek and Mustard Pie. Can't fault it other than we didn't have room for dessert!

Very friendly, well run gastro pub. One of the younger waiting staff seemed a bit nervous and hurried but overall experience was excellent. The food was of a good standard and well presented.
