Beautiful old pub, fantastic food, friendly staff. We ate 6 different dishes between 2 of us - all were delicious. We couldn't believe how low the bill was for this extremely high standard of cooking.

The food was excellent and staff were attentive. My only complaint would be the choices on the menu as they were fairly limited. The beer was well kept and tasted as it should.

It was our first visit to the pub. Having found out about it and its new chef in the Oxford Times newspaper (I think) some time ago, we wanted to see what it was like.
We thought the location, garden, interior of the pub were lovely. The staff were friendly enough, but possibly a bit overstretched at the busies time.
My husband, who loves real ales, thought that the choice of the beers was somewhat poor. The best English breweries were not represented.
The lunch we had was really good. The starters (soup and smoked mackerel) were delicious. The main course (chicken and potatoes terrine?), that I had, was brilliant, although slightly over spiced. My husband said his main course ("raiser blade beef pie"?) was good but a bit bland. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed my desert (sticky toffy soufflé), although he was looking forward to his cheesecake, but was a bit disappointed, as he did not taste any cheese in it.
All in all we did enjoy our visit and will come again. It was good value too.

Really disappointing having come highly recommended by friends (usually the best recommendation). The food was very good but the service was totally unsatisfactory. The order for our main course was wrong, resulting in one of the party waiting an additional ten minutes for their meal while the other two either waited and let their meal go cold or start; unimpressed. We then ordered a pudding and cutlery dually arrived but then waited another 30 minutes only to be told that it was on its way; it arrived ten minutes later. Clearly the order did not make it to the kitchen the first time around as the chef popped his head out to apologise.
This experience was a pity as the restaurant was not busy and the food great - it was just that the staff could not get the order to the chef coherently. Attention to detail wins the day; hopefully this was a one off but I will not be returning.

Food was excellent especially the steak! Staff were very informative especially as one of our party has special dietary requirements. Restaurant was very clean and welcoming.
