Dined one evening at the Chop House. It has a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The service is attentive without hovering. I'd return to try other dishes if I re-visit Cambridge. We had meats, rib eye and short rib. The short rib was magnificent. Fall off the bone tender served with a wine based gravy. The vegetables with the meat were all properly cooked and flavorful. The rib eye steak was a little tough. A good beer and wine selection, and the burnt cream dessert added up to a delightful dining experience after a day of wandering the streets and colleges of Cambridge.

I don't normally complain but the steak was over cooked and the salad was dry and just lettuce leaves. It was more of a garnish than a side.

Great lunch of tasty traditional British favorites: Steak&Ale pie followed by Sticky toffee pudding.

Very nice meal, good service, a pleasant evening. The only flaw with the service was that the waiter seemed surprised that the red wine we had ordered had some sediment. I would have expected someone to have known this about that particular wine and taken it into account when pouring it into our glasses.

We had a delightful Sunday lunch. Really liked the décor (cool & stylish), food, wine, atmosphere, great service from S African waitress and Polish waitress, very smiley & charming. Food arrived impressively quickly. It's expensive though although we appreciated the good quality of the ingredients in our dishes. Will come again.

Had the pork belly and my husband had the slow roast short rib of beef. Both were outstanding. Service was exceptional on a busy night.

St. John's Chop house is a fantastic venue. We ate on Saturday night before going to theatre so time was tight and fortunately service was swift and quite professional. Unfortunately I was slightly under-awed by the food. The steaks were good quality but accompanied by rather sad looking chips which taster a bit better than they looked but nonetheless looked a bit like oven variety. Considering the price I expected something that looked a bit better. 2 of us had the venison which was served with a gravy that was too thick and gelatinous. The veggies were flavovoured with star anise which was clever but probably slightly over powering. The venison was braised and rather lacking in flavour and a little dry for me. We ordered 2 bottles of red wine with the meal which were both good. I do think that French red should be decanted at the table by the waitress; the wine nearly always has sediment which can left safely in the bottle. We were very tight for time and the restaurant managed to get 4 desserts for us in super quick time which was much appreciated.
