Inside a snug 17th-century building with crackling log fires and exposed beams, The St John's Chop House showcases the finest succulent steaks and chops alongside carefully chosen local ales and an extensive wine list.
The finest cuts of meat feature on the St John's Chop House menu, ranging from classics like sirloin, through to 10oz delmonico steak, or juicy pork t-bone, all served with signature coleslaw and other indulgent sides. There are Chop House sausages, confit duck leg, and seafood recipes like coley fillet with spiced crab cake. As well as light bites like haggis fritters with beetroot and whisky mayonnaise, there are also vegetarian delicacies such as vegetable and walnut bake wellington.
Indulgent desserts at The St John's Chop House Cambridge include elderflower and whiskey jelly with champagne sorbet, and the classic option of sticky toffee pudding. Local ales are championed, as well as British lager and cider, while the wine list focuses on the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France.
Also serving gluten-free, dairy-free and children's menus, The St John's Chop House is rich in British dining tradition, and sits 12 minutes' walk from Cambridge Rail Station.

Food and service good. The visit was marred by a large and very noisy group, the problem is the low ceiling which reflects and amplifies the sound.

Consistently excellent, tasty food, prompt, friendly service and cosy atmosphere. Very good value for money.

I've been a big fan of this restaurant since it opened, for its food, wine,, warm welcome, professional service and general ambience. Perhaps I was unlucky on my recent visit, but I have the impression it has changed for the worse. No complaints about the meat - excellent quality and perfectly cooked - or wine, but for the rest all I can say is that I was disappointed. I'll probably come back again to make sure this was not just an off night, but not with any enthusiasm. Pity.

Lovely setting for dinner out with my husband. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tasty and the service was perfect.

Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience. Nothing was outrageously bad so as to complain at the moment, but the food was a disappointing standard for the price and the staff seemed disorganised. The bone marrow starter was a little burnt, and parts of the tongue n cheek main course were not very warm when the plate was served. The puddings were big and overly rich. The staff came back and forth in a disorganised way. We were brought a jug of water, then a second was put down, then someone came back and took the first one away. We were asked by two different waitresses for our order, after giving it the first time, and we were asked how our meal was before we had chance to taste anything. Then we had to hunt someone down to ask to have the bill.

This is not the first time I have visited the Chop House and I have never been disappointed. I thought yesterday's options of Goats Cheese Tart and Sausages were exceptional value for money. The service was quietly professional. I will return!

A very nice evening and it's not often you're offered a suet pudding of goat - which was delicious.
