Nestled on the riverbank, The Flying Horse is a cosy gastro pub with an outdoor dining area and a menu featuring modern British fare with a hint of Mediterranean influence. A refurbished country-style pub with wicker seats, cushioned sofas, and a large bar with an open log fire, it enjoys picturesque riverside views.

With chefs given the opportunity to train at cookery schools in Spain and Italy, St George & Dragon restaurant menu features modern signature recipes made using the finest seasonal ingredients. As well as creative daily-changing specials, favourites include Mediterranean mezze, seared chicken breast with sweet potato rosti & buttered British beans, and spit-roasted chicken with lemon & garlic confit. A kids’ menu and Sunday roasts also feature, and desserts include rich vanilla and chocolate gelato with home-baked cookies.

The result of a treasured partnership with Rothschild wine merchants, the cellar showcases many fine wines, while token real ales and premium spirits are found at The St George & Dragon bar. Nostalgic British nibbles and eclectic sharing platters bursting with international flavours offer more laidback dining.

The St George & Dragon in Reading is a 12-minute walk from Wargrave Railway Station.

Lovely quaint dining area. Brilliant Customer service from entering right through to leaving the restaurant. Roast chicken was lovely along with the battered halloumi. Not impressed with the bread and oils as was sourdough.

We were a little worried as we booked based on location having not been for years and the online reviews are pretty mixed. But the food was really good, although classic Berkshire prices (high). The service was timely and polite. And the location on a hot summers evening delightful. Loved it.

The restaurant is set on a lovely location overlooking the river. The food was overall of a good quality, the roast chicken was particularly good. The only dissapointment was the speed of service, it took about an hour and a half for our food to arrive. Having a young child with us it was particularly hard to wait that long as she was hungry and restless. This experience would not put us off going there again but we would definately choose a quieter time.
