Dined on Sunday, roast was very good and the vegetarian pie was delicious. Good value for money.

Once a noteworthy roadhouse built in the 19th century, The St George & Dragon, Exeter boasts well-loved British pub food in an idyllic location, both in the countryside and near the sea. Prizing its sense of homeliness, there is an Innkeeper’s Lodge, a warming hearth for winter and a pretty garden for al fresco dining.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The St George & Dragon menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The St George & Dragon ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

The St George & Dragon is just 15 minutes’ walk from Topsham Train Station, or an 11-minute drive into Exeter.

Disappointed that the restaurant had run out of Sunday Roasts by 16:30...& on a Bank Holiday weekend!
Our tables was tucked around the corner & we felt a little forgotten.
However, when the staff did attend to us they were very friendly & cheerful.

Have had Sunday lunch there several times recently as it is conveniently near. I'm afraid I've been consistently disappointed. The beef is often tough, the huge Yorkshire puddings mostly overdone and the vegetables plentiful but flavourless. The staff are very pleasant.

The restaurant was almost empty during our meal and the room was cooler than we would have liked (January 2nd and a cold evening).

We were given our menus and advised that several dishes including items 3 of us had chosen online. We were advised by the waiter that there had been much demand over the last few days which had depleted their stocks.
As my main meal choice related to my diet, I asked if the dish could be adapted with the items that were available and I was told no. I was also told that the 'soup of the day' would contain cream. The waiter seemed inexperienced and was fairly young. I went to the bar and asked for the person in charge and explained the situation as there was no other choice that seemed to offer a low saturated-fat option. This person was much more helpful and said he would talk with the chef. Apparently, the item I would have liked was not low in saturated fat either; so no mains dish offered appeared to be low in saturated fat. However, I was advised that an adapted dish could be offered that would be low in saturated fat and this turned out to be satisfactory and 2 of us chose this option. I was also told that the' soup of the day' did not contain cream so I was able to have that.

Our meals were then enjoyed by all of us and we had adequate contact from staff.

I would recommend this restaurant to those who do not need to be concerned about their cholesterol levels. I have visited this restaurant before when the whole menu seemed to be on offer. I appreciated that I was offered an adapted option.

I would recommend to the restaurant chain they offer some low-saturated fat options (which are healthier for all). It may be that dietary options are offeredt if this is discussed with prior notice to the chef (although this advice was not given me by restaurant staff)

I enjoyed my dining experience at the George and Dragon near Exeter Devon have visited several times before. My favourite dish is the lamb and mini shepherds pie but its not available on a Sunday which is usually when I visit when I am visiting relatives in Devon. The restaurant is always very clean and nice atmosphere and staff are always helpful especially the blonde haired lady who sorry I don't know her name but has been with you for quite a long time.
My mother has the fish and chips on Sunday but was very disappointed as it was very overcooked and hardly any fish. However, the restaurant did take off 20% of the bill which was a pleasant surprise and a nice gesture as we hadn't really complained just mentioned it to the staff,
