Established in the 1500s, The Spread Eagle near Burton-on-Trent has a colourful history as both a school and court house. Now, it offers well-loved British pub cuisine in a country setting, with views of the Alder Brook from the beautiful gardens. It features a cosy hearth-fire, rustic log-piles and an appealing cream exterior with unique green window frames.

Hearty Sunday roasts and trusty British dishes head The Spread Eagle menu, and a range just for kids offers mini versions of pub favourites. Signature Vintage pies offer fillings like beef & merlot with buttered peas, while The Spread Eagle ‘Vintage classics’ menu includes lemon & garlic-roasted chicken with seasoned chips.

Paying homage to the Great British pub, the Vintage Inn bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and a meticulously compiled wine list. Thirst-quenching offerings include seasonal non-alcoholic cocktails and freshly-pressed juices, and rich coffee is brewed freshly throughout the day.

While nestled in the picturesque countryside amongst the bubbling tributaries to the River Trent, The Spread Eagle Rolleston-on-Dove is only 6 minutes’ drive to Burton-on-Trent.

Disappointed there was now duck on the 3 for £20 offer so had to order off the other menu which made our meal more expensive. Also on the mixed grill the lamb steak was replaced with a piece of chicken breast. When we asked the waitress she went away to ask why , her reply was supplier of lamb could supply but no one had told her but no compensation was offered and we paid £5 extra for this. The chocolate ale cake was ok but the sorbet with it had lumps of ice in it. Sadly disappointed with our meal.

We were dissapointed on arrival that no roasts were available! After waiting over forty minutes I had to ask as we still had not received our starters,we were told there had been an error with the booking system and had to reorder everything and wait again.I am surprised that nobody realised we had not received anything in that time.We eventually received our food and it was ok but certainly not the quality we were expecting or worth the prices charged, especially when my Husbands meal was served with smash and not real mashed potato! Staff were friendly and the ambience was nice and they did deduct £10 of our bill for our wait but we still felt our wedding anniversary meal was ruined and felt very dissapointed.

We have eaten here several times in the past. We usually either go Saturday Night or Sunday Lunch. The meals are absolutely wonderful, the staff are very polite and professional (very nice to see waiting staff with pleasant smiles). The service is excellent and the place itself was once an old courthouse and school in the past and is very characterful. Will certainly be visiting again.

Alice was great but one of the steaks wasn't cooked right and there was way to much garlic in mine
It's just standard pub grub, not in the same league as many other pubs in the area
