Luxuriating in 5 acres of woodland in the heart of the Merseyside country, The Sparrowhawk is a charming British gastro-pub from Brunning & Price. Refined international cuisine partners an extensive and eclectic drinks selection in a rustic, country manor setting.
Seasonal offerings from The Sparrowhawk menu include a sophisticated lemon sole fillet with a prawn and chervil mousse, saffron potatoes, baby vegetables and crab bisque, and eclectic international dishes like the hot Vietnamese king prawn and noodle salad, and a fragrant Malaysian chicken curry with coconut rice. Calf's liver, with a celeriac and black pudding hash, sits among classic British favourites like venison and apricot sausages, and a juicy 10oz rump steak.
There’s also a select children’s menu at The Sparrowhawk in Formby, while light lunch bites include a roast pepper, cream cheese and basil sandwich on seeded bread. The Sparrowhawk restaurant interior is an elegant mix of wrought iron chandeliers, wall to wall Tudor beams and polished wood dining tables.
In the greenery of the Formby Woods, The Sparrowhawk is a 10-minute drive from the centre of Southport.

Great location, food, service and price. One fault - the roast dinners were HUGE! But everyone enjoyed their meals and the staff were very attentive. Thank you everyone at Sparrowhawk for a lovely evening and making out family get together perfect.

Lovely surroundings for the beautiful Georgian building set the scene. The restaurant is warm, bright and very welcoming. The staff were extremely pleasant. I chose pate and plum chutney followed by the Lancashire Cheese and potato pie - mmmmmwah! I almost had room for the delicate sorbets to finish off. A excellent meal in an informal, relaxed atmosphere.

Nice setting and ambience. Good service. Good menu range. Quite expensive for a pub. Husband really enjoyed his lamb main course. I had chicken, ham hock and leek pie. Awful pastry. Chips dry and mainly inedible. So, a mixed experience.

Excellent food, well presented and attentive staff. Only one minor criticism in that we had to wait quie a while for our mains and a longer wait for those who didn't have starters
